Miles... tugged at one of her corkscrew curls, grinning playfully at her.

What the...

I looked down at my fists. They had clenched without me noticing.

Once again, I looked up at Miles, who was now completely ignoring me.

He should go to hell. Along with that red-haired slut.

Diagonally across from me, someone pulled out a chair, and I flinched.

My gaze shot up.

“Cody?”

He ran his fingers through his dark brown, almost black hair, and a sparkle flashed through his light blue eyes as he began to grin.

“We thought we'd pay you a little visit before you get bored here.”

We?

Another chair, this time next to me, was pulled out.

A second later, I looked in surprise at Kieran, who was smiling in amusement.

He seemed more relaxed than usual, or was I mistaken?

“Isaac Miller actually got forty thousand dollars transferred to his account!” Cody blurted out excitedly, and I remembered the football player from Nash’s team who had let his inner monkey out and danced on Harlow’s car.

“Good for Isaac Miller,” I muttered, even though I couldn’t shake the feeling that one of these rich kids from the Harbor District was behind the hacker attacks.

In Blairville, everyone knew each other. Especially the rich. There were only the DeLoughreys, our family, the Blairs, the Westcodes, and a few other investor families from downtown.

Unless they were long-established Quatura, many wealthy families – such as the Bexleys, Miltons, and Skinners – lived in their coastal estates in the Harbor District.

Back in the founding days, the Bexleys had been the mayor's family and had also amassed considerable wealth over time, but the Bexley siblings were hardly behind it. Jenny wasn't that smart.

“That hacker is getting on my nerves,” I grumbled, immediately feeling Kieran’s questioning gaze on me. I looked at him. “I mean, fine, if he doesn’t want Harlow here any more than the rest of us, but he’s damaging Vanderwood’s reputation. And even Alarik refuses to see it.”

Kieran seemed focused, as if he were thinking about my words, before his gaze drifted off into space.

“Maybe you should sit back and watch, just like your uncle,” Cody laughed, shrugging his shoulders and leaning back casually in his chair, pulling a chocolate bar out of his jacket pocket and opening it, not very quietly.

Once again, I noticed that he had scribbled colorful patterns and shapes on his fingers.

“He's not here to ruin your family business.”

“He wants to break Harlow. Completely,” Kieran added, his gaze still fixed on the void. He took a few seconds, then looked at me with a serious expression. “Believe me, if this hacker wanted to harm your family, he would play into the Quatura’s cards.”

“What if it’s a human?” I sighed.

Actually, I was sure.

I knew there were families who resented my father for banning hunting in our forests. What if they turned their children against us?

My gaze wandered to the three guys who had been staring at me the whole time. The tallest of the three, with short light brown hair, Derek Milton, was the son of the head of Blairville's hunting club. His father was one of the town's human investors who had made it his goal to hunt down Blairville's wild wolves in his spare time.

Derek smiled triumphantly, sending shivers down my spine. I had never felt comfortable around him…
