“But you got me.”
His expression softens. “Yeah,” he says quietly. “I did.” He reaches for her hand and draws her close enough to press a kiss to her forehead. “And I intend to keep doing that.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake. If he gets any sweeter, he’s going to usurp my position as the resident cinnamon roll.
Toto looks up at Leo. “And you moved that enormous thing all by yourself?”
Leo gives a weary shrug. “It took some effort.”
“Some effort?” I repeat. “Brother, you just shoved half a mountain off a cliff. I'm never complaining about you leaving your dirty socks lying around again.”
“You complain about everything.”
“Only because I'm exceptionally good at it.”
Toto laughs, and the sound does something wonderful to my chest. Our girl is alive, safe, and laughing.
I pull her back into my arms, brushing a loose strand of hair away from her face. “You know,” I murmur, “I can think of considerably more enjoyable things we could be doing right now.”
Her eyebrows rise. “Oh?”
“Absolutely. Things involving you, me, these two handsome bastards, and a bed that isn't located anywhere near a homicidal witch.”
Her smile turns wicked. “And what exactly did you have in mind?”
I lean down until my lips brush her ear. “I would like nothing more than to bend you over and have the three of us run a train on you.”
She draws in a sharp breath.
“And after nearly losing you,” I add, my voice dropping, “I intend to spend a very long time reminding you just how much we love you.”
Toto's expression softens, and she slides her arms around my neck. “I love you, too.”
I kiss her. Not the quick, desperate kisses we've been exchanging since Nick pulled her out from under that rock, but a proper kiss where everything else disappears for a moment.
When I finally lift my head, her cheeks are flushed and her eyes are sparkling.
Dear God, this woman is perfection.
I catch her hand with a pained groan when she reaches for my waistband. “Baby, don't tempt me. As much as I’d love to get naked with you right here, we need to get the hell out of these woods.” I gesture toward the enormous boulder behind us. “We've just survived a seven-hundred-year-old witch. If some evil goblin or whatever the fuck else lives in this forest decides to attack us while we’ve got our dicks out, I might actually lose my mind for good.”
Toto bursts into laughter, and all three of us join her.
We stand in a clearing full of rubble, covered in dust, with a dead witch beneath a mountain-sized rock, and laugh like idiots.
But we're alive, we're together, and for the first time in years, nobody is waiting to steal our memories or drain the magic from our bodies.
I can't remember the last time I felt this free.
“Raincheck?” Toto asks once her giggles have subsided.
I pull her close and kiss the tip of her nose. “Raincheck. And Toto?”
“Hmm?”
“I intend to collect.”
Her smile promises all sorts of wonderful things.
