“Same fucking thing.”
“No, it isn't.”
I kissed his forehead. “You came home.”
“Barely.”
“But you came home.”
His arms tightened. “I promised.”
“I know.”
His voice dropped. “I heard you screaming when I blacked out.”
My throat closed. “Viking.”
“I heard it.” His eyes closed. “That sound is going to stay with me forever.”
“Then remember what came after.”
He looked at me. “You woke up.” I touched his cheek. “You survived.” His hand moved over mine. “And you're here.”
“I'm here.”
“The baby's here.”
“Yes.” He exhaled slowly, then he kissed me. Softly, nothing desperate, nothing hungry, just love. When we separated, I realized the room had gone suspiciously quiet. I looked around surprised to see the brothers were still there.
Lucien wiped at his eye, Viking glared. “Are you fucking crying?”
“No.”
“You are.”
“Medical room's dusty.”
Draugr looked around raising a brow. “It's sterile.”
“Fuck off, Draugr.”
Volken smiled. Roman looked at Viking. “You good?”
Viking's arm tightened around me nodding. “I am now.”
Roman nodded. “Then we'll give you some time.”
Lucien pointed at Viking with a glare. “Do not fucking stand.”
“Go away.”
“Dragan said…”
“Lucien.”
“Fine.”
The brothers filed out, Draugr was last, he paused as he looked at Viking then me. Something passed through his pale eyes, maybe relief as he gave an imperceptible nod before walking out and closed the door. For the first time in two days, we were alone.
