“Because I thought you were dying!” My voice cracked as the images flashed through my mind. Silence, because I hadn't meant to shout but two days of terror came pouring out. “You were covered in blood, Viking. There was so much blood and you weren't healing, and then your eyes closed and you stopped answering me.”
His face changed.
“I thought you were dying.” Tears burned my eyes. “I thought I was watching you die.”
“Bryn.” I could hear the pain in his voice at my words, but I couldn’t stop myself.
“And then my stomach started hurting.”
His face drained of colour. “What?”
“The baby is fine.”
“What fucking happened?” He roared.
“Stress. Dragan checked everything.”
Viking looked over my shoulder. “Dragan.”
The healer stepped forward at the command. “Mother and child are healthy.”
“Was she going to miscarry?” My heart clenched because knowing Viking he would blame himself for everything she went through.
Dragan chose his words carefully. “We were concerned enough to monitor her closely.”
Viking stopped breathing, his hand remained over my stomach. The guilt that entered the bond nearly knocked me over.
“No.” I grabbed his face. “Don't.”
His eyes came back to mine. “This is my fault.”
“No.”
“I nearly killed our child.”
“Don't you dare.”
“Bryn…”
“No.” I held his face harder. “You were stabbed with a poisoned demon blade. You did not choose that.”
“I chose to go after Ceasar.”
“Yes.”
“I stopped thinking.”
“Yes.”
“I left my brothers behind and charged him like a fucking idiot.”
“Yes.”
His eyebrows lifted slightly and I sniffed. “I'm not going to lie just because you're injured.”
A tiny smile appeared but gone almost immediately. “I hurt you.”
“You scared me.”
