He wrapped his arms around me, drawing me down into a deeper kiss. It was nice. Too nice.
I drew back. “I have to get home. Dakota’s waiting.”
He loosened his hold on me. “Does she know where you are?”
I barked a laugh as I climbed out of the bed and started retrieving my clothes from the floor. “That would be a hell no.”
“I thought you said she knew…that she wouldn’t mind?”
I glanced over my shoulder. “Yeah, she told me it’d be okay if something happened. Doesn’t mean I want to tell her about something happening.”
Joey chewed his already abused lips, tempting me to go in for another round. But no. I really had to get home before it got too late or there’d be no avoiding Dakota’s questions.
Assuming it wasn’t already too late for that.
“I don’t want to lie to her or keep it a secret,” he said. “It wouldn’t be right.”
“Nobody’s lying,” I promised. “I wouldn’t do that.”
He nodded once. “Okay.”
I peeled my tangled T-shirt and hoodie apart, then re-dressed. Joey remained in the bed, watching me with a look I couldn’t read.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing.”
“Tell me,” I ordered.
He looked down. Damn. Apparently, the magical obedience disappeared when we weren’t fucking. I returned to the bed and sat on the edge.
I cupped his face. “Kiss me goodbye?”
He leaned into me instantly, lips soft under mine. I kissed him thoroughly and drew back. “You want this to keep happening? Or is it too much?”
“I want it,” he said quickly. “What about you?”
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t crave you like air. I tried to stop breathing. I couldn’t. So, yeah, I’ll be back.”
He rested his forehead against mine. “We’re fucked, aren’t we?”
“Seems that way. But hey, at least the sex is good.”
He chuckled. “Too good.”
“Way too fucking good. You should try being a little awful next time. Maybe then I could resist you.”
He smirked, a bit of the confidence I’d first seen in him returning. “Sorry, Kit. I don’t think that’s possible. You like fucking me way too much for that.”
I huffed a laugh. “You’re not wrong.”
Our eyes met, and the words were there, unspoken. He wasn’t wrong, but I really wished he was. Because whatever this was—it couldn’t lead to romance or happiness.
Not with the accident between us.
Dakota had forgiven him, but I couldn’t seem to do the same, my emotions a tangle I couldn’t seem to unknot.
I hated that I still wanted him. Hated that I couldn’t resist him.
