“Ooh, yummy. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, sweetheart,” he told her with a wink.

Ammo happened to walk in just as he said that, and glared at Webb. “Shouldn’t you be setting up outside?”

Webb’s grin widened for some reason. She wasn’t sure why, but he just nodded and left the room.

“What was that about?” she asked.

“What was what about?” he replied as he walked over and grabbed a blanket from the end of the sofa, placing it over her lap. It wasn’t cold in here despite the fact that no one had obviously been in here for a while. But she didn’t protest the blanket.

She wanted to know what the interaction between him and Webb had been about.

“You should stop talking so much. You’ve talked too much today.”

“That’s just another way of telling me to hush,” she said.

He just raised an eyebrow. “And yet you keep not hushing. You need to rest your voice. The doctor said you had to take it easy or else you might permanently harm your throat.”

Ugh, she hated when he made good sense.

Kirsten and Eli and Hank came in to say goodbye. She gave Kirsten a hug goodbye.

“Be careful, okay? I don’t want anything to happen to you,” she told her best friend.

“You be careful as well,” Kirsten told her. “And make sure Ammo takes good care of you. Keep in touch, okay? The solar panels on the roof will provide enough electricity for you guys so you can charge your phones and stuff.”

“I don’t even have a phone anymore,” she said. “I don’t have anything.” Oh, God, she hadn’t thought about that. She had to cancel her bank cards, get a new license. It was all becoming rather overwhelming.

And she felt herself struggling to breathe.

Then suddenly Ammo was there. He settled her on the sofa once more and kneeled between her legs, taking her hands in his. Her eyes focused in on his face.

“Just breathe, baby. Breathe with me. In, one, two, three. Hold, one, two, three. Out, one, two, three.”

She took some long, slow breaths with him. As her pulse began to settle down, her breathing became easier.

“Sorry,” she said, as everyone stared down at her. All of the men had made themselves scarce, which was awfully nice of them, leaving just her, Ammo, and Kirsten in the room.

“What happened, baby?” Ammo asked with a concerned look.

“Sorry, I just got a bit overwhelmed as I realized everything there is to do, and that’s on top of the house stuff and the insurance. I don’t even have any clothes.”

“I’ve taken care of all that,” Kirsten told her. “The clothes part, not the house and insurance part. I got you some new clothes, a laptop, and a phone. They’re all packed in one of those packs.”

“But I don’t have the money yet to pay you back.”

“You don’t have to pay me back,” Kirsten told her. “Ammo gave me money for everything.”

Aimee turned to stare at Amo. She knew she should protest, but she really needed those things, and the fact that he’d thought about that and had sent her best friend out to get them, well, that made her eyes fill with tears. She let out a sob as she threw her arms around him.

“Sad tears or happy tears?” he asked.

“Definitely happy tears.”

Aimee stared around the small cabin. She was bored. It was amazing to have a man who just took care of stuff. Even before she’d even realized it needed to be taken care of, it was done. Like cooking meals, cleaning up, arranging to cancel bank cards.

All of it had been taken out of her hands. He’d even arranged for Jeremy and his mom to feed all of the cats and helped her this morning with contacting her insurance about the house. There wasn’t much left to do, except be bored.
