My Forever Sin

The grunting continues.

Smash. Smash. Smash.

“Kain!”

He hisses painfully.

“Kain!” I shout. Why is he ignoring me?

An elongated ‘ah!’ stretches louder fills the room.

I squint my eyes to see what Kain is doing, but I can’t fucking see. And that light from the window does nothing to aid my vision. He continues to growl, panting rapidly in between. I desperately try to push to my feet, gritting my teeth through my own pain.

I’m so fucking numb, but that pain permeates through me as I slide up the rough wall, skin scraping against it.

Kain yells, then rhythmic grunts and metal cracking against stone reverberates through our cells. Concerned, I want nothing more than to break out of these fucking chains so I can see if he’s okay.

“Kain?” I cry quietly.

But then I see him as he steps slowly to the cell gate—the split on his lip has dried up, my name is gloriously carved into his chest, and his sweaty muscles ripple with every breath. I look down at his hands where his skin is shredded and blood drips onto the wet dirt and grime covered floor.

What the fuck.

“Oh my fucking God, you psychopath,” I whisper.

Kain’s hands tremble as he grips the iron bars and rattles on them. “Dorrian! Get us the Hell out of here!” he yells, his voice like I’ve never heard it before. It makes even me want to cower before him.

A door clangs open and Kain blinks towards the glaring light before retreating into the shadows. I pull in a nervous breath.

Several footsteps flood the space.

Heath.

My mother.

Dorrian.

Father Michaels.

Samuel.

A lump gets lodged in my throat at the sight of him.

I… stabbed him. He bled out. How is he still here?

Fear grips me like a storm.

Dorrian’s brown eyes connect with mine, they’re swimming with something akin to an apology, and that’s when reality hits me.

It was never him.

He’s a victim too, trying to protect someone of his own—Cassie.

They don’t waste time opening my cell, all of them stepping inside as my heart accelerates to an impossible speed, my arms yanking on the restraints.

The cloaked fuckers were unpredictable with them, I know what to expect. I know what to expect with Samuel and I can’t do anything. I can’t save myself this time.

“Stay the fuck away from me,” I warn, kicking my leg out only to have pain flash through me.
