Waves of heat rush through my body despite the air conditioning pumping through this place and I grab my hair, piling it up on the top of my head and holding it there. Dalton has his arms around my waist, keeping me secure as I move my hips against his. My arm falls, feeling particularly heavy and I open my eyes.
The lights feel brighter than before and I stop dancing as I look around the room.
The music feels louder, too.
Did they turn up the volume?
“Are you okay?” Dalton asks and I meet his eyes. It takes a second for his face to come into focus and I blink up at him. “Lennon?”
I nod. “Yeah. I think that drink just hit me kind of hard. It’s been a while since I had alcohol.”
“What do you need?” he asks, his brow furrowing in concern as he scans my face. I shake my head.
“I’m good. I’m just gonna go to the bathroom and splash some water on my face.”
He pulls me to his side and wraps an arm around my waist. “Let’s go.”
“Dalton,” I say, rolling my eyes. “I can go to the bathroom by myself.”
He shrugs. “And I can take you.”
“Baby, you can’t go in the bathroom with me.”
“Fine,” he says just as we reach the hallway down to the bathrooms. “I’ll wait right here for you to get back. But if you take too long, I’m coming in after you.”
I laugh. “Deal. I’ll be right back.”
He releases me and I stumble, catching myself with my hand on the wall. Dalton is right there, looking less sure about this plan but I hold my hand up to reassure him.
“I’m good.”
He hates this.
I can see that all over his face but he doesn’t push for more as I begin making my way down the hallway. My legs feel like lead and each step becomes a monumental task and a test of my willpower.
What the fuck?
There is no way I drank that much.
No fucking way.
I finally make it into the bathroom and stumble over to the sinks, staring at them for a second.
Why are there two sinks in front of me?
I blink and my vision focuses again.
No.
Not two.
Only one sink.
Releasing a sigh, I reach forward and try to turn on the faucet but I miss the handle completely. Sweat beads on my forehead and rolls down my face as I stare at the faucet and reach forward again.
Miss.
“What the… fffffuck?” My voice sounds weird, like I have cotton balls in my mouth.
