Almost is Never Enough

It was everything I needed and maybe all I can offer him is another night like tonight.

God, I hope that’s good enough.

“Go ahead and climb off, baby,” he says and I follow his instructions. As soon as I’m off the bike, I take the helmet off and move in front of him, offering him a smile.

“I had a lot of fun tonight,” I tell him and he smiles. “But we don’t have to put a label on this.”

His smile drops and his brow furrow. “What?”

“Yeah, you know,” I say, fidgeting with the loose threads on my shorts. “We can just keep it casual.”

Searching my face, he gets off the bike and stands in front of me, his expression serious and slightly confused. I don’t know what he sees but then, he’s leaning down and kissing me again.

God, I love kissing him.

His hand cradles the side of my face and his other arm wraps around my waist, pulling me closer, and just when I think he’s about to deepen the kiss, he pulls back.

“I’ll see you tomorrow, baby.” He releases me and nods up to my apartment door. I stare at him for a second, trying to make sense of his words before I turn and start walking towards my apartment.

Does that mean he’s okay with keeping it casual?

Or does he want more?

And what the hell am I going to do if that’s the case?

Chapter Fifteen

Rooster

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

My fists hit the bag in front of me over and over again. At this point, I’m not even paying attention to what my body is doing. I’m on autopilot, my mind too damn consumed to focus on anything but the thoughts racing through my head.

Casual.

Thud.

Thud.

What the fuck was that?

Thud.

What the hell did she think last night was?

I’ve done my fair share of hooking up with random women and it has never, not once in my fucking life, felt the way it did when I was inside Lennon. When she was underneath me, writhing and making those delicious fucking sounds that made me lose my damn mind.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

She saw me, the real me, and she didn’t balk or run away.
