The doctor sighs and folds his hands together in front of him. “You’re looking good, Miss Scott. Your most recent scans show that the bleeding in your brain hasn’t progressed at all so that is becoming less of a concern-”
“I’m sorry,” I choke out, my eyes widening. Pain blooms across my face from the move. “My brain was bleeding?”
“Ah, I see we hadn’t gotten to that part yet,” he says, pressing his lips into a line and nodding. “I apologize. Yes, you have a small brain bleed but as I said, it hasn’t changed overnight so that is a good sign. You also have several broken ribs and a lot of soft tissue damage but you’re already showing signs of improvement. We’ll want to keep you for a few more days for observation. We’ll need to continue running scans to monitor that bleed but I have no reason to believe, at the moment, that you won’t make a full recovery.”
I nod at him, my mind spinning. “Okay.”
“I’ll be back to check in on you later but let the nurses know if the pain increases, especially in your head.”
Once I agree, he leaves and I turn back to the men in my room as I suck in a breath.
Fuck.
That still hurts like a bitch.
You have several broken ribs…
The doctors words ring in my head as I look between Dalton, Jumper and Storm. “Someone want to tell me what the fuck happened to me?”
“Actually, Lennon,” the man I don’t recognize says as he steps forward. “We were kind of hoping you could tell us that.”
My brow tries to arch before I immediately lower it again as pain radiates through my face.
“And you are?”
He holds his hand out to me. “I’m Max Mobley, a detective with Baton Rouge PD.”
“Can you tell us what you remember when you got to the apartment, Lennon?” Jumper asks again and I glance in his direction before letting out a sigh and focusing on the blanket on my legs.
What the hell do I remember?
I went to pack…
I was going to surprise Dalton…
Shaking my head, I say, “I started packing my things. I took some totes down to my Jeep and when I got back upstairs, I went into the bedroom to start packing my clothes.”
“You were going to move in?” Dalton asks, his gaze so fucking intense as his knee bounces next to my bed and I force a smile to my face.
“Surprise?”
His eyes are suspiciously glossy as he shakes his head and drops his gaze to the floor, pressing his lips to the back of my hand, his knee still going like crazy.
“What happened next, Lennon?” Max asks and I turn back to him.
Okay.
Think.
I was packing my clothes and then…
A noise.
“I heard something out in the hallway…” I whisper, staring at the blanket as my brows furrow. “It startled me and I went to go check it out....”
Oh God.
“Something hit me in the face as soon as I walked out of my room…”
