“Don’t leave me, Len,” I whisper, dragging my thumb across her bruised and swollen cheek as gently as possible. “I won’t survive it, baby.”
I’ve never needed anybody in my life but I fucking need her.
She’s my anchor.
My home.
The only fucking home I’ve ever known.
Chapter Thirty-Five
Rooster
Everything is fucking wrong.
This place is too damn quiet.
I can’t sit still, my knee bouncing underneath me as I stare straight forward at a spot on the carpet of the waiting room.
It’s not enough.
Shoving out of my chair, I begin pacing back and forth before I glance over at the door to the emergency room.
My girl is back there.
And I have no fucking idea what’s happening.
How long has it been since they took her back?
Is she even still breathing?
No.
She’s still alive.
She has to be.
I fucking need her.
Resuming my pacing, I keep my head down and release my fists, shaking my hands out to try and get some blood back into them. This is not how I operate. I see the fucking threat and I deal with it.
This, though…
How the fuck do I fight this?
The door opens and I suck in a breath, glancing up. A nurse walks through the door, carrying a chart but she doesn’t even glance in my direction as she walks through the waiting room and exits through another door.
Fuck.
I shove my hand through my hair and begin pacing again.
Come back to me, baby.
“Roost,” Jumper says. My head whips in his direction as he stands from one of the waiting room chairs. Storm, Gear and Kodiak are also here. They all showed up at the apartment after I called Jumper and helped me call the ambulance to get Lennon here. “She’s going to be okay, man.”
I grit my teeth. “You don’t fucking know that.”
“No,” he says, nodding as I turn away from him. “But I believe it. She’s not going to leave you that easily.”
