Either way, I can’t see him going to the trouble of sneaking into Voodoo and slipping something into my drink. Besides, I asked Dalton if they saw him on the surveillance cameras and he begrudgingly admitted that they didn’t.
So, there is no proof.
And I’m damn sure not going to live my life in fear of that man.
I hate thinking about how long I spent walking on eggshells, coming home unsure of what version of Owen I was going to get and I refuse to waste another second of my life like that.
“Owen is not a problem.”
He barks out a laugh. “If Owen doesn’t back the fuck off, your man is going to put him in the ground.”
“Well,” I say with a shrug. “Actions have consequences. And he has been warned. Multiple times.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t seem to be getting through to the big, dumb motherfucker.”
“Jump,” I say, turning to look at him. He glances over with an arched brow. “Can you shut the fuck up, please? I don’t want to talk about Owen anymore.”
Dalton, Jumper, Gear and I spent most of the afternoon going over everything that has happened with Owen and the events of Club Voodoo and frankly, I’m sick of it.
He scoffs. “Yeah, sure. Most people just tell me to shut the fuck up so it’s kinda nice that you’re asking.”
“Let’s not pretend like you’re not annoying people intentionally, Jumper.”
“Lennon,” he gasps, placing a hand on his chest. “That was hurtful. I’m hurt.”
“Why? Because I’m right?” I ask and he flashes me a grin that tells me everything I need to know.
“No idea what you’re talkin’ about, darlin’.”
“Mmhmm,” I say, shooting him a look. “Moving on”
We ride in silence for a moment and as we get closer to the field where Dalton’s fights are held, I start to bounce in my seat a little. This is the first time I get to see him fight but I’ve heard enough from other people to know that it should be a good show. He’s got some kind of tournament tonight so he’ll be fighting more than once.
“How many times am I going to watch Dalton beat the shit out of someone tonight?”
Jumper laughs. “Three. Eight fighters are signed up tonight so they’ll do the first round and four people will move on to the semifinals and then we have the finals.”
“That’s if he wins,” I say and Jumper’s gaze snaps to me.
“Len…” His eyes widen and he shakes his head. “He’s never lost.”
I blink at him. “What?”
“Dude is undefeated. At this point, it’s a rite of passage for a fighter to get their shit rocked by Hyde.” He lets out a laugh but I’m still struggling to understand what I just heard.
“Never?”
Jumper shakes his head. “Not once. No one’s even come close. Hyde is where all of Dalton’s demons come out to play and those fuckers are nasty.”
“What does that even mean?” I ask, staring at the road in front of me as the field where they hold the fights comes into view. Jumper snorts.
“You’ll see.”
The crowd is huge, people filling the space around the ring in a semi-circle and cars lined up almost all the way to the street.
“Shit,” Jumper says. “We probably should have gotten here sooner. Turn here.”
“Okay.” I turn in the direction he gestures and the cars begin to thin out a little bit. He points to a spot near the back of the ring.
