“Because I wasn’t going to leave you alone for a single fucking second.” He releases a breath. “Not until I know, for sure, that you’re okay.”
His phone rings, piercing through the calm of the clubhouse and I suck in a breath as I watch him pull it out of his pocket. He meets my eyes and nods as he answers the call, putting it on speaker.
“Hey, Doc,” he says. Morgan, Jumper and Gear get up from the couches and make their way towards us. “You’re on speaker.”
“I just got the results back from the lab. Lennon was drugged.”
There is a ringing in my ears and my muscles tense, that one word bouncing around in my already aching skull.
Drugged.
There is no denying it now.
There is no pretending it didn’t happen.
Someone drugged me.
And I can’t understand why.
“Are you sure?” Dalton asks, taking my hand and threading his fingers through mine. I focus on his touch as my breath saws in and out of my lungs.
“Yes,” Doc answers him, no doubt in her voice. “The toxicology came back positive. I don’t have the full report in front of me yet but she was definitely given something.”
Dalton’s grip tightens slightly on my hand. “Thanks, Doc. Send that report over to Streak when you get it, will you?”
“You got it,” she answers. “How’s our patient feeling this morning?”
“Like shit.”
She hums in response. “I imagine. Just keep an eye on her over the next few hours and make sure she doesn’t get dehydrated. I’m here if y’all need anything.”
He thanks her again before hanging up the phone, tossing it down on the island next to me. His hand cups my face and he forces me to meet his eyes.
“Why?” I croak out and he shakes his head.
“I don’t know, baby. But we’re going to find out. I need you to stay here at the clubhouse with me until we do though, okay?”
I blink up at him, nodding before his words even settle in my mind.
“I’m going to find who did this to you, Lennon,” he says, his voice full of a conviction that sends chills down my spine. “I promise you that.”
“And god fucking help them when he does,” Jumper mutters under his breath. I shoot him a look but, for once, he’s not joking.
Chapter Nineteen
Rooster
Hyde is raging inside me.
He has been for the past four days as Lennon stayed here at the clubhouse with me.
Those days were the closest thing I’ve had to peace since the moment I found Lennon curled up on the bathroom floor at Voodoo.
She was here.
I could see her.
I could hold her.
