Chapter Six

Then

“Emma Nicole Harrington!” Addilyn, one of my best friends, shouts, drawing the attention of everyone in the bar. “You’ve been ignoring us.”

I arch a brow and watch as she and Daisy strut toward the bar with determination on their faces.

Shit…

“I haven’t been ignoring you,” I say. “I was just texting you yesterday.”

“And when was the last time we saw you?”

“Well… uh…”

“Exactly!” Daisy yells and I shake my head. Sliding out from behind the bar, I make my way over to my two best friends and give them each a hug.

“Sorry.”

“We will forgive you…if you come out with us tonight.”

I frown and look back at the bar. “I can’t. I’m working.”

Daisy opens her mouth to say something but someone else calls my name.

“Emma Harrington?” I turn around and find a young girl with red hair and blue eyes staring back at me.

“Yeah, that’s me.”

“Wait right here, please,” she says before scurrying out of the bar.

“What the hell was that?” Addilyn asks.

“I have no idea.”

A second later, the bar door opens, casting sunlight onto the wooden floor. In her hands is a large bouquet of lilies and a huge grin spreads across my face.

“Oh my God,” Daisy and Addilyn say at the same time.

“These are for you,” the girl says, handing me the vase and an envelope.

“Thank you.” I set them down on the bar and she quickly leaves.

“Those from the cop?” Trey calls from the other end of the bar.

“I don’t know, let me read the note.” I pull a blank card out of the envelope and smile when I see the familiar handwriting.

Emma,

The next chapter in my handbook says to

buy the girl flowers so…here you go.

I had an amazing time last night and

I can’t wait to see you again. Have a good

night, beautiful.
