Chapter Eighteen

Addilyn

Rolling over, I peek open my eyes and squint at the bright sunlight spilling into my room before throwing my arms above my head and stretching across the bed. When I relax back into the mattress and look over to the empty sheets next to me, my heart sinks. I know that I need to go apologize to Trey even if I’m still terrified of everything that’s uncertain between us. It’s like ripping off a Band-Aid. I just need to blurt it all out there and hope that he can deal with it all.

The front door to my apartment opens, and I suck in a breath as my heart rate spikes. Nobody would just let themselves in without calling or texting first. A moment later, all the fear leaves my body in a rush when Trey walks into my bedroom, carrying a tray of coffee and a bag.

“Trey,” I whisper, my voice filled with relief. I think Emma got to me more than I thought last night because there was a split second when I suspected Kyle had come back to “fight” for me.

“Hey, gorgeous,” he says, stopping short like he’s unsure what to do next, and I hate that I made him feel that way. In this moment, I hate the way I flee from a situation that hurts or makes me uncomfortable instead of facing it head on.

“I’m so sorry, Trey,” I say at the same time that he says it to me, and we both laugh, the mood instantly brighter. He strides over to the bed and sets the bag and coffee down on the bedside table before kicking his shoes off and sliding into bed with me. He cradles my face as he leans in and presses a sweet, soft kiss to my lips, and I sigh into him, my eyes fluttering closed. He pulls away and kisses both my cheeks then my nose and finally, my forehead. I have a huge smile on my face when he finally pulls back and looks down at me.

“I’m so fucking sorry, baby. You’ll probably never know just how much but you were right. The way that I treated you was…” His voice trails off, and he shakes his head. “I’m really disappointed in myself. I’m better than that, and I promise it will never happen again.”

“Thank you, and you’re forgiven. I’m sorry that I reacted the way I did and pushed you away yesterday.”

He smiles and kisses my lips again softly. “I’m kind of glad you did. I was so angry when I did it, and I don’t think I fully realized how bad it was until you were running out of my apartment. I was so focused on my anger and jealousy that I never stopped to consider how it would make you feel. You make me so crazy sometimes, gorgeous.”

“To be fair, I thought it was dinner with a friend. It wasn’t until I got there that I realized he wanted more.”

The deep growl that rumbles in his chest has me quirking an eyebrow at him, and he takes a deep breath, shaking his head. “Baby, a man does not send flowers like that to a woman he wants to be friends with.”

“Well, I know that now.”

He sighs again and runs a hand through his hair before looking down at me again. “Is he gonna be a problem?”

I meet his gaze, laying my hand on his cheek, and shake my head. “No, Trey.”

“I really, really like that answer.” He leans in again and kisses me, more forceful this time, and I wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. God, I missed him.

When he pulls away, the smell of coffee hits my nose, and I sniff, peeking around him. “So, what did you bring me?”

He chuckles and rolls over to grab the food before sitting up and leaning against the headboard. He pats the spot next to him, and I cuddle up by his side, pulling the blanket around me. When he hands me a cup of coffee, I wrap my hands around it and inhale its heavenly aroma with a contented little humming noise, and Trey laughs again.

“I didn’t know what you would like so I got a little bit of everything,” he says, holding open the bag to reveal an assortment of doughnuts.

“Trey,” I laugh, “do you really expect the two of us to eat… twelve doughnuts?” I ask after quickly counting them in my head.

“Well, I thought it might be a good idea to keep food right next to the bed to keep your energy up throughout the day. We’ve got an awful lot of making up to do.”

I shiver races through me. “Oh.”

He grins and holds one of the doughnuts up in front of my face and without taking my eyes off his, I lean forward and take a bite. A little frosting sticks to my lip, and before I can clean it off, his thumb is swiping it away. He sucks the sweet frosting off his skin, and I watch with rapt attention, making him grin like the devil himself.

My body comes alive, aching and tingling with anticipation as his gaze rakes down me, following the contour of my body. He grabs the blanket and pulls it back to reveal the panties that match the sexy little sleep tank I’m wearing, and he nods.

“I love your pajamas, baby.”

“How in the hell do you make a word like pajamas sound sexy?” I ask, and he laughs, setting the food and coffees back on the end table before he positions himself over me and leans in close so his breath fans out across my face.

“How do you make pajamas look so sexy?”

“They’re sexy pajamas, Trey.”

He looks down again, his gaze almost like a caress as he moves it over my body. “No, it’s definitely you. It’s the long sexy legs,” he says, running his fingertips down the outside of my thigh. “And these amazing curves that drive me out of my mind.” He trails his hand back up my leg and grips my hips before sliding his hand up to my side. “But my most favorite thing about you is your gorgeous, hazel eyes and the way they light up when you’re around me.”

“Trey,” I whisper, my eyes drifting closed as I soak up his words. I’ve never been with a guy who could seduce my mind as well as my body. Trey uses words like most men use their hands. He pulls me into the moment with him and doesn’t release me until the end. I have no choice but to be present, feeling everything he does to me. He uses no restraints but I’m held completely captive by him.
