I look away first.
“I have three possibilities,” she announces. “Maybe four.”
“Off the rack?”
She looks personally offended.
“Absolutely not.”
I glance at Mitchell. He's biting back a smile.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“I don't understand.”
“You don't need to,” the designer says. “That's my job.”
She takes me gently by the shoulders and turns me toward a curtained fitting area.
“I will dress you.”
“I only have a few hours.”
She waves that away.
“I need one.”
“One?”
“One hour.”
Then she turns to Mitchell.
“You.”
He actually looks behind himself. I snort.
“Me?”
“Leave.”
His eyebrows rise. I have the sudden feeling Mitchell Knight doesn't get told to leave very often.
Possibly ever.
“But I brought her.”
“And now I have her.”
I laugh. I can't help it.
The expression on his face is priceless. The designer points toward the door.
“Go conduct a hostile takeover. Buy an island. Whatever it is you do when women are busy.”
“I suppose I have some calls I can make.”
