I hold out my hand. “Sage.”
Rhett glances down at it before looking back at me. “I know.”
“Everyone knows. I’m very important.”
“So I’ve heard.” he says, with a hint of amusement pulling at his mouth as he takes my hand. His thumb brushes over my knuckles and warmth immediately spreads beneath my skin, traveling from the back of my hand then slowly winding its way up my arm.
I blink, pull back and his smile disappears.
He felt it too.
Ezra notices. “What?”
“Nothing.” Rhett says.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Rhett.” He warns.
“I said nothing.”
I look at my hand. “Static?”
Neither answers.
“Cool good talk.”
A cheer rises behind us and the band stops. The announcer takes the stage again. “HOW ARE WE FEELING?”
The crowd screams.
Rhett looks toward the stage and Ezra mutters something under his breath.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“Everything.”
“Drama queen.”
The announcer laughs. “It’s almost time for my favorite part of Harvest Communion.”
Ezra turns. “Fuck.”
Rhett’s amusement disappears.
“What?” I ask, looking between them. “What the fuck?”
Neither answers me as the crowd starts chanting. At first, I can’t understand it. Then it becomes clear.
“BRIDE!”
Oh no.
“BRIDE!”
Mariah appears out of nowhere. “There you are!”
