Calla floats several feet above the floor, suspended inside a transparent prison.
Her eyes are closed.
Her hands hang limp at her sides.
I step toward her.
“Calla!”
Hypnos raises one hand.
Chains of black light wrap around my wrists.
“Your agreement, son.”
I look at him.
“Release her first.”
He smiles.
“Still attempting to negotiate?”
I bare my teeth.
“Still attempting not to kill you.”
His laughter echoes through the temple.
Then he gestures toward Calla.
Her eyes open.
She gasps.
“Morpheus!”
My heart nearly stops.
“Darling.”
She presses her palms against the invisible walls.
“Where are we?”
“Somewhere you should never have been brought.”
Hypnos approaches.
“How touching.”
Calla turns toward him.
