“Good! But how can you do that, if you don’t tell him you’re interested?”

“I haven’t figured that part out yet, but I’m sure there’s a way.”

“You could ask him out for coffee.”

“On a date?” Randa gasped. “No, I can’t just ask Kahn on a date.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m still trying to figure out if I hate him or not!”

“Well, that’s what dating’s for.”

Randa opened her mouth to respond to that, when a crash echoed from out in the bar, followed by the warble of a mortally injured jukebox. Shouts and screams and the unmistakable sound of fists hitting flesh left no doubt that a bar fight had broken out.

“Oh no.” Randa whirled and ran back out of the bathroom.

She quickly scanned for the tallest figures in the bar, trying to determine which of them was behind the altercation. It only took her half a second to spot the troublemaker.

Julius.

The crying woman’s ex-boyfriend had arrived. He clearly didn’t appreciate Jules comforting his former love and neither did his twenty-three buddies.

“Good Lord.” Ashley murmured, coming up behind her.

The crying woman who’d kicked off this debacle was now screeching, “Gas-Tank baby, stawpppp! You never listen to me. Julius, you see how he never listens to me?”

Gas-Tank wasn’t listening to her. He was too busy trying to kill Julius with a hammer. He swung wildly at Julius’ head and ended up hitting the silver Christmas tree that the bar hadn’t taken down yet.

His equally tough-guy friends were already fighting the other Light Phases. They were all wearing motorcycle club jackets, which probably meant they were used to being the biggest badasses in the room.

Only they weren’t the biggest badasses in this room. Dear God, this was going to be a massacre.

Randa’s eyes automatically scanned for Kahn. She didn’t know why she bothered. What could possibly happen to the man? He was massive and trained to kill. Still, she didn’t relax until she spotted the big dummy in the fray.

Her eyes landed on him just in time to see Kahn throw two bikers through the wall, simultaneously. One guy was gripped in each hand, and he tossed them both like they were darts. The drywall collapsed around their bodies.

Then, he turned and hit Ben. There was no reason to punch him, since the human was literally just standing there looking disgusted and superior. Kahn plowed his fist into Ben’s jaw simply because he could. He knocked the human to the floor, scattering several of his teeth against the hardwood like dice. Kahn stepped over the prone man with a satisfied grunt.

It was worrying that Randa found it all a little hot.

As if he could sense her nearby, Kahn’s dark gaze unerringly found Randa in the crowd. “There you are!” Relief flashed on his face. Maybe he’d been searching for her, too. “Didn’t I tell you to stay close to me?”

“Didn’t I tell you no violence tonight?!”

“You said no killing. Nobody’s dead. Yet.”

Randa threw up her hands in frustration.

“It isn’t safe for you to be away from me. I’m coming to… Hang on.” A biker leaped onto Kahn’s back with a knife in his hand. Kahn promptly shattered the guy’s jaw.

Mannus and Daven’s whoops of joy had Randa’s head turning to find them. The brothers had launched themselves into the fray, like this was their favorite part of the night. They were each fighting three men.

Nearby, Rysimer hit a bearded man so hard the guy did a literal flip in the air.

Rye’s flirty, one-woman fan club swooned over his prowess. “Looking good, boo!” Tallulah Jayne sipped from a drink decorated with paper umbrellas. “Aim for their knees. That’ll drop the bastards.”

Rye shot the woman an impressed look and seemed to come to a decision. “How many men have you killed?”
