I set Alibi on the ground. He immediately sits on my foot.
“Move.”
He doesn't.
Callie opens the hatch.
I look inside, then give her a disbelieving look. “What the fuck?”
“What?”
“I thought you had three bags.”
“I do.”
“There are four.”
She points. “That's my laptop bag.”
“That counts as a bag.”
“No, it doesn't.”
“It has bag in the name.”
“That's work.”
I stare at her.
She rolls her eyes. “There’s a difference.”
I reach for her suitcases. Then Alibi's. His is smaller than hers, but not by nearly enough.
“What the fuck is in this?”
“His things.”
“He's twenty pounds.”
“He has a rich inner life.”
I unzip it.
Callie slaps my hand away. “Don't snoop.”
“I'm carrying it.”
“That doesn't give you the right to violate his privacy.”
Alibi sits between us, staring up at us.
I look down at him. “What the fuck did she pack?”
His tail thumps against the concrete.
“Don't interrogate our child.”
“He's a dog.”
