No Need to Hide

My brain keeps going back to this morning. Waking up beside Roman felt so right. And when Alibi lay beside us, that pretty much sealed it. We’re obviously meant to be together.

I frown, picturing his house. I hate that he has nothing personal in it. Not only does it prevent me from learning more about him, but I also hate how easily he could pack up and leave at a moment’s notice.

I close my laptop. “I need coffee.”

“You've had two.”

“I need better coffee.”

Violet looks at the cup beside me. “You made that.”

“Exactly.”

She shakes her head.

“I'll be back.”

“Bring me something.”

“What?”

“Surprise me.”

I grab my purse. “That's dangerous.”

“I know.”

Bramble & Bean is busy when I walk in. The lunch crowd has taken over most of the tables, and there's a line almost to the door.

I spot Alibi immediately. He's behind the counter with Gracie. I'm not sure he's legally allowed to be there, but I decide not to ask.

His tail starts going the second he sees me.

“There's my baby.”

Several people turn.

I point at Alibi. “The dog.”

A man near the door looks relieved.

I weave through the tables.

Gracie looks up from the espresso machine. “Your son is a menace.”

“That's genetic.”

“You didn't give birth to him.”

“Emotionally, I did.”

Alibi jumps against my legs when I reach the counter.

I bend and scoop him up. He immediately starts licking my chin.

“You've had bacon.”

His tail wags.
