Not because I'm worried. Because now I'm curious.
I move toward the edge of the parking lot, changing my angle.
Still nothing.
No obvious surveillance vehicle. No woman ducking behind a steering wheel. No one suddenly pulling away. No movement that doesn't belong.
The tracker doesn't impress me. Anyone can buy an AirTag.
What impresses me is that I can't find her.
I look at it again.
Huh.
Yesterday she used Gracie's car. I identified it. So today she changed vehicles.
Yesterday she stayed too close. If she's here now, she corrected that too.
She didn't simply try the same thing again and hope I wouldn't notice. She adjusted.
A slow smile pulls at my mouth.
You're learning.
I glance at the AirTag one last time.
Doesn't mean I'm letting you win.
I walk to the trash can at the edge of the lot and drop it in.
If Chaos wants her tracker back, she can come find it.
I walk to my truck and open the door. If this were a job, I wouldn't leave until I identified whoever was following me. I'd change positions. Create movement. Watch exits. Force them to expose themselves.
But this isn't a job.
And Callie isn't a threat.
Not the kind I'm trained to eliminate, anyway.
The other kind?
That's becoming debatable.
I look around one more time.
Nothing.
“Fine.”
I climb into my truck.
Let's see what she does.
I signal and pull back onto the road.
As I drive, I continuously check the mirrors. I take a route I don't need. Change lanes twice.
