“Atta girl.”

“So what do we need to do?” she asked.

My phone buzzed and I pulled it out. I smiled as I read Mr. Tanner’s reply. “Apparently we don’t have to do much at all.” I slid my phone across the table at her.

She laughed. “He’s got it covered? Which part?”

“I’m assuming all of it.”

“We should probably ask for specifics,” she said.

“Nah, he gets my vision. I’ll let him handle the décor.”

Scarlett laughed. “Okay, this is actually going to be really fun.”

“Right?! Seeing the whole football team without their shirts on?”

“Do you really think Mr. Halifax will show up?”

“He touched my back, Scar.” We’d already been over this. But sometimes she acted like she forgot.

“I know...but...”

“No buts. We’re throwing the most epic party of the year. And the Empire High mascot is showing up in all his feathery hotness.”

“I don’t think feathery hotness has ever been used in a sentence before.”

I laughed. “Scar, it’s really happening.”

“I hope you’re right.” She ate a fry. “You haven’t um...heard from your mystery man recently, have you?”

“Just once. He said he had a dream about me making a mistake. While he watched.” I shook my head. “He’s such a pervert.”

“Did you respond?”

“Of course not.”

“Well, good,” she said.

“Good,” I agreed.

Scarlett sighed as she stared at something over my shoulder. “Do you think that’s going to be a problem?”

I turned to see what she was looking at. RJ and Liam were laughing about something with Leo. I was pretty sure the two of them had kinda wanted Leo to be Scarlett’s kiss thief. The three of them were all a handful.

“I’m sure it won’t be,” I said and turned back around. “But it would have been weird to invite everyone but Leo.”

“I guess.”

“Axel forgave Jacob. He can forgive Leo too.”

“But Axel and Jacob have been friends forever. Axel and Leo haven’t. I’m just worried they’re going to get in a fight at the party.”

“No fights at a Christmas Adam party. Remember...no worries or judgements. That means Axel basically has to let it go.”

“Or they’ll get in a fist fight because there’s no inhibitions at this party either apparently.”

“I think everyone will be distracted by the snakes,” I said.
