Axel shrugged. “Actually...I think it sounds like a great theme.”
“Traitor,” Scarlett said.
“What?” He smiled down at her. “Is it a sin to want to see you in nothing but a few fig leaves?”
“Probably.” But she finally laughed.
I squealed. “This is going to be so much fun.”
“Wait,” RJ said. “How does this help you with Mr. Halifax, though? I thought you wanted him to come as the mascot? Everyone will know it’s him if he shows up in nothing but a fig leaf.”
“He’ll still come in costume. If it made sense for Christmas, it makes sense for a Christmas Adam party too.”
“If you say so.”
“I do. Now everyone go spread the word.” We’d taken forever finalizing everything. But we needed to announce the party before someone else threw one.
I shook my head. Who was I kidding? We were the only ones cool enough to throw a party on a Tuesday night. And no one was going to miss this one. Not even the sexiest teacher at Empire High.
“I’ll go tell the team,” RJ said and lifted his tray.
“Maybe not Leo, though,” Axel said.
“Leo’s part of the team, man.”
“I’m with Axel,” Scarlett said.
RJ sighed.
“You’re going to have to get over this eventually, Axel,” Jacob said.
Scarlett had hooked up with a lot of people searching for her kiss thief. I was glad my mystery man hadn’t kissed me. Because I didn’t want to make out with every green eyed guy I ran into on the street. Although, I wouldn’t have done that. Because I wasn’t interested in him. At all. He was a cocky idiot. Honestly, if anything, he was Hephaestus. One big mistake I wished had never happened.
But also, maybe I owed him a thank you. Dancing with him had started a chain of events that had led to Mr. Halifax touching my back last week. I was about to have everything I’d ever wanted. And my mystery man had helped.
This really did feel like fate.
“Earth to Sophie,” RJ said and waved his hand in front of my face. “The whole team, right?”
“Yeah, Axel, get over it,” I said.
He lowered his eyebrows. “We’re all throwing this party. Why does Soph get the final say?”
“Because I have the vision. And I’m envisioning the whole football team coming so that everyone else comes. End of discussion.”
Jacob laughed. “So bossy.”
“You know you love it.”
He just shook his head.
“Now everyone disperse.” I shooed the table.
All the guys got up to go spread the word. But Scarlett slid her tray down the table and scooted so she’d be sitting right across from me.
“Tell me you secretly love the idea for the party,” I said. “You heard Axel. He’s excited to see you in your fig leaves.”
She smiled. “Well, I don’t love the idea of everyone seeing him in just a fig leaf. But I’ll certainly enjoy the view.”
