I shook my head. “Nope.”
“Good.”
“Jacob, you have nothing to worry about.”
“He’s stalking you, Soph.”
I laughed.
“I’m serious.”
“Stalker is such a harsh term. Like you just confirmed, he doesn’t even have my phone number.”
“I just want you to be careful.”
“You are so sweet.” I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek.
“Soph!” Scarlett yelled and practically tackled me in a hug.
I laughed. “You’ve had more to drink than me.”
“Maybe. But I just wanted to say sorry about today. I was just trying to help, but I know I overstepped. I won’t push your mystery man on you again. I know you’re in love with Mr. Halifax. Delete the app and we can pretend none of it ever happened.”
Just when I was finally starting to enjoy talking to him...
I shook my head. What was I even thinking? I didn’t enjoy anything about my mystery man. I grabbed the bottle back from Jacob and took a sip. What I needed to do was forget all about him and focus on my man. Just like Scarlett said. The Axel injury scare had scared her. And I was glad we were on the same page.
I’d had a momentary lapse of judgement by messaging my mystery man. It wouldn’t happen again.
What I should have been focusing on was Mr. Halifax’s feathered arm around me today at the game. Not the Post-it note in my pocket.
But my mystery man was doing all the things I wished Mr. Halifax would do. He was possessive and flirtatious and clear with his intentions. God, he really had crawled under my skin.
Maybe I needed to text Mr. Halifax.

“But you’re the student council president,” I said.
Scarlett just stared at me. “And I repeat, my position does not give me access to the teachers’ phone numbers.”
“I know that isn’t true. Just give me the list.”
“I thought you already had Mr. Halifax’s phone number?”
I sighed. “I thought I did too. But it was just a landline. I need to text him, not call him. So...give me the list. Please,” I added.
“I literally have no teachers’ phone numbers.”
“Well, now you’re just lying.”
Scarlett stared at me like I’d lost my mind.
I put my hand on my hip. “You have Uncle James’ phone number.”
She laughed. “Because he’s my dad.”
