Jacob shook his head. “He seems like a freaking stalker. The Hunter name means something in New York. I know he said he put it together after Uncle James showed up. But what if he’s lying? What if he knew who you were the entire time?”
“I didn’t think of that,” Scarlett said.
“You guys think he’s trying to blackmail Soph or something?” RJ asked.
“For what?” I asked. “All we did was dance.”
“I don’t know,” Jacob said. “I just have a bad feeling.”
We all just stared at each other.
Jacob grabbed the phone. “We need to figure out who this asshole is.”
“I was thinking the opposite,” I said. “Just delete the app.”
“But he mentioned our game on Saturday. What if he’s going to be there? He could be planning on kidnapping you or something.”
I laughed. “Seriously? You gotta choose a lane. Is it blackmail or ransom?” I shook my head. “It’s neither. It’s not a crime to Google a few things.”
Jacob shook his head. “The guy knows our parents are rich.”
“So what?”
He ignored me and started typing. “You know our names. What’s yours?”
The phone buzzed. “Mere Mortal.”
Jacob muttered something unintelligible under his breath. “What are we going to do on Saturday to keep Soph safe? We’ll all be on the field.”
“You guys are being ridiculous,” I said. “He’s not going to kidnap me. I’ll be in the middle of a crowded stadium. I dare him to try. You can type that. Dare him to try.”
“No one type that,” Axel said. “I have a bad feeling about this too.”
“I’ll be with her the whole time,” Scarlett said. “We’ll be fine. Right, Soph?”
“Yeah, Scar will protect me from the big scary stalker. Who’s barely a stalker. Because the five of you were the ones stalking him. Maybe he’s scared of us ransoming him off. Ever think of that?”
RJ laughed.
“And for the record, I bet he does look like Shrek. Who puts the back of their head on a dating app?”
“He did it for you,” Scarlett said. “It’s mysterious and fun.”
The guys all looked at each other. Were they seriously worried about this? The Empire High Eagles were in the playoffs. The stadium was going to be packed. I doubted my mystery man would even be able to find me in the crowd.
“He didn’t even say he was coming to the game,” I said. “He just said good luck to Axel.”
“Maybe stay close to our parents in the stands just in case,” Jacob said.
“I was going to do that anyway.”
“Good,” he said.
“Good,” I agreed. Seriously, why was he so worried about this? “Can we watch the game now?”
“There’s nothing else you want to say to your mystery man?” Scarlett asked. “I can give you the login info for the app...”
“No thanks,” I said.
