“Dude, what are you even saying right now?” RJ asked.
“I don’t know. I’m weirdly invested.” He turned the phone toward Scarlett’s face to unlock it.
I really didn’t want to see. I didn’t need to see either. It didn’t change anything. My heart belonged to Mr. Halifax. A 15 wouldn’t change that. Mr. Halifax was a freaking 20.
I remembered the feeling of my mystery man’s hands on my hips. And of his hot breath on the side of my neck. My hickey was only just starting to fade away. I wanted the memory of him to fade away with it.
I’d let this guy mess with my head. Spending hours studying Greek mythology on a weekend wasn’t my ideal way to spend a day off. My mystery man knew nothing. And I wanted nothing to do with him.
“Um...what the hell is this?” Liam asked.
Jacob laughed as he stole a glance. “How do you even know that’s him? All you told us was that he had green eyes.”
“He does have green eyes in his profile picture,” Scarlett said.
“Definitely not, Scar.”
“What?” Scarlett leaned forward. “No! He...he changed it!” She grabbed her phone back. “No, no, no!”
Axel laughed.
“You saw it,” she said to him. “It was a picture of his face earlier.”
“He must have changed it after you swiped on him.”
“But...why?”
“Because he wants to remain a mystery?” Axel said.
Scarlett sighed. “Darn it.”
Well now I was too curious not to look. I leaned over to see her phone. It was a picture of the back of my mystery man’s head. The only thing I’d seen at the club. I laughed.
“It’s not funny. And where did his name go?” As soon as she said the words, a name appeared in the blank space above his profile picture. It read: “Mere Mortal.”
“Did you see his name when you swiped?” Axel asked.
“Um...” Scarlett pressed her lips together. “I think it was...Bob?”
“Hot name,” I said. “Not.”
“Gah I don’t remember!” she said. “Axel, did you see it?”
He shrugged. “I think it started with an S? Maybe?” He shook his head. “Or a C? Nah, that doesn’t sound right. I don’t remember either.”
“Because you were too busy checking out the 15,” RJ said. He lifted his hand and Liam high fived him.
Axel glared at him.
“Ah!” Scarlett almost dropped her phone when it buzzed. “He sent a message.”
“Click on it,” RJ said.
Scarlett opened up the message and we all peered over her shoulder to read it.
“I’m guessing this is Aphrodite’s friend from the other night?”
Scarlett looked up. “How does he know that?”
