I laughed. “No.”

“Damn. I have some redecorating to do.”

They’d given us a few days to settle in. Scarlett and Axel spent that time in bed. But Jacob and I spent that time exploring campus. It really was beautiful. And quiet. So much quieter than the city.

I’d figured out where all my classes were. And I was stoked to finally attend my first one. It was a new day. A new semester. A new school.

“This is going to be the best year ever,” I said as we walked along the brick path.

“I’m already having the time of my life,” Scarlett said.

I laughed. “I know. I’ve heard you moaning.”

She hit my arm.

“But seriously,” I said. “We need to figure out some kind of schedule or I’m just going to move in with Jacob.”

“Don’t do that! We’ll figure it out. You’re my roommate.”

“I’m thinking we can put a sock on the door...”

“But everyone knows what that means,” Scarlett said. “How about we write something on our whiteboard instead?” We had a whiteboard on our door that would be perfect for that. It mostly had sweet nothings written to Scar on it from Axel right now.

“That could work,” I said. “How about...Scarlett’s banging Axel, come back later?”

Scarlett hit my arm again. “No. How about we draw some kind of symbol?”

“Like a baby?”

“We’re not making any babies.” She laughed. “Let’s just draw a smiley face. Does that work?”

“Very sexy,” I said.

“Well, I would have said hearts but Axel always leaves them in his notes to me.” She smiled.

They were sickeningly sweet. In a good way. “A smiley face it is. Don’t forget.”

“You got it.”

We walked under the brick arches and down a few steps. This campus was so beautiful. And I was so happy. I almost felt like skipping.

“It’s weird that there’s a Hunter Hall here,” Scarlett said as we walked by the white building with huge columns. “Do you think people will know we’re those Hunters?”

“If rumors spread here as fast as they did at Empire High...probably.”

“Is it just me or does it feel like people are staring at us?”

It kind of did. “Don’t worry about them. All that matters is that this is our first day of college. Nothing is going to get in the way of my fresh start.”

“Atta girl,” Scarlett said and looped her arm through mine.

We hurried into the building next to Hunter Hall and went up the stairs.

I’d already peered inside yesterday while I was touring campus. The room was bigger than ours had been at Empire High. So the class was going to be larger. I think I was going to like being in bigger classes with more students. I did not want one-on-one relationships with any of my professors. Been there, done that. And it had failed epically. I dropped Scarlett’s arm as we walked toward the room.

Scarlett sighed. “I still don’t know why my dad signed us up for this class of all the classes. He knows I hate this subject.”
