“I’m still mad at him,” Scarlett said.
I nodded. “Me too.”
“But I just want you to know that if you never want to see his stupid face again, I support you 100%...”
I laughed. “I think everyone does.”
“You didn’t let me finish. I’d support that. But if you want to give him a second chance, I’d also support you 100%.”
I knew that. Because she always supported me. “I don’t think he deserves a second chance.”
“But if you ever decide he does.” She shrugged. “What was that story about your parents?” she asked with a smile. “That it took them quite a few chances to get it right?”
“The third chance is a charm, so I’m told,” I said.
Scarlett smiled. “Well, maybe that’s your story. Maybe it’ll just take Adonis a few chances to make it right.”
I sighed. “That sounds exhausting. I’d much rather focus on my fresh start.” I lifted my arms in the air. “We’re in college!”
She laughed. “We’re in college!”
There was a knock on the door.
Scarlett hopped off her bed and opened it. Axel picked her up in his arms and twirled her around. And then they started making out.
“They’re going to be a lot to be around, aren’t they?” Jacob laughed as he plopped down on my bed beside me.
“We’re going to need a sock system.” I shook my head. “Who are we kidding? There’s a very good chance that I’ll basically be rooming with you while the two of them room together.”
Jacob nodded. “Yeah, probably.”
I thought he might sound sad about this conversation, but he looked genuinely happy. I knocked my knee against his thigh. “You good?” I whispered.
He leaned back, looking perfectly at home in my bed. “Yeah, I’ve been looking forward to this fresh start.”
“Me too.”
His eyes fell to my necklace, but unlike Scarlett, he didn’t say anything about it.
“Oh, great news,” I said. “We all have a class together!”
“We do?” Axel asked as he came up for air.
I laughed. “Yes. Entrepreneurial studies.”
Jacob frowned. “I didn’t sign up for that.”
“Uncle James got us all in together. It’s probably updated for you in the portal.”
“Well, awesome,” Jacob said. “I didn’t think we were going to have any classes together this semester.”
“Only one problem,” Scarlett said. “It’s randomly on Wednesday nights for some reason.”
Axel pulled her closer. “Well, I was going to be spending all my nights with you anyway.”
I shook my head.
“Well, roomie,” Jacob said to me. “What is your stance on posters of half-naked women?”
