He reminded me of Mr. Nigel.

Adonis wrapped his arm behind my back and I leaned into him just as the photo was snapped.

“The golden hour,” the butler said and handed me my phone back. “Perfection.”

I knew immediately what he meant, even though I didn’t know the term. Because you could see the sun just starting to set behind us, casting the most amazing golden color across the sky.

I was definitely framing this picture.

“This way, this way,” the butler said and kept walking.

“Wait.” I didn’t go to follow. “What’s over there?” I pointed in the opposite direction.

“The gardens,” the butler said.

“I have to see that.”

“Aphrodite...”

I hurried toward the gardens before Adonis could stop me. The twisty path led past another small pool. It was much more secluded back here. And there was something very romantic about all the greenery so near the ocean. It kind of reminded me of the Christmas Adam party...

I shook the thought away.

I didn’t want to think about that. I walked past a huge tree with a pond of fish at its base. It was seriously beautiful back here.

“Where are you?” Adonis called from somewhere over a hedge.

I ducked into a small clearing where a huge chess set was set up. “Hanging out with two kings!” I called to him.

He turned into the clearing with a scowl on his face. But then he laughed. “Not funny, Aphrodite.”

“A little funny.” I patted his chest. “Do you want to play?”

He smiled. “How about later? I don’t feel like being slaughtered right now.”

I laughed. “I’m not that great at chess.”

“You’re great at everything,” he said as he nudged one of the kings a space with his foot.

“Is that seriously the move you’re going to make? Because...checkmate.” I slid my pawn forward, taking his king.

“I wasn’t playing,” he said with a laugh. “I was just kicking one of the kings you were hanging out with.”

I laughed. “Sure.”

“I wasn’t,” he insisted and then tickled my side.

I yelped and swatted his hand away.

“We’ll come back later and you can slaughter me properly.” He grabbed my hips, pulling me in close. “But right now, I’m starving.”

The way he stared at me made it seem like he was starving for me. “I could eat,” I said.

“Well the butler recommended one of the restaurants that has authentic Caribbean fair.” He grabbed my hand and led me through the maze of foliage. “Spicy’s,” he said as he pointed to the sign on the restaurant.

I laughed. “That says Spices. Not Spicy’s.”

“I know,” Adonis said and tickled my side again. “But the butler pronounced it as Spicy’s.”
