Axel wrapped his arm around her and kissed her temple.

“Mr. Halifax is my happily ever after,” I said.

“But what if you have it wrong? What if it’s your mystery man? We have to unmask him.”

I just stared at her. “Again, you don’t need to unmask him because you already saw him.”

“Come on, just tell us what you guys were talking about. Please?” She smiled at me.

I sighed. “He likes Greek mythology. I think. He called me Aphrodite.”

“Aw. He already has a nickname for you.”

I rolled my eyes. “And he says I looked just like someone he knows. Someone who doesn’t like him back.”

“So you’re definitely his type,” Jacob said.

“No, the girl he likes is his type. He doesn’t like me. He’s a judgmental asshole. He compared Mr. Halifax to Hephaestus and he’s a complete dick.”

“Hephaestus or your mystery guy?” Liam asked.

“What?”

“Is Hephaestus or your mystery guy a dick?”

“Both.”

Liam laughed.

“Who is Hephaestus?” Jacob asked.

“Aphrodite’s husband who she was forced to marry. She didn’t love him. My mystery guy thinks me hooking up with Mr. Halifax would be a mistake.”

“Well...” Jacob started.

I kept talking. I didn’t need to hear any of my friends agree with that asshole. “And my mystery guy said he was a mere mortal. And Aphrodite had lots of affairs with mortals. Like Adonis.”

“You do love Adonis belts,” Scar said.

Fair. My mystery guy definitely had one. I could feel how hard his abs were behind me. It was easy to picture them tapering off, creating the perfect Adonis belt above the waistline of his jeans. I cleared my throat. “I’m not interested in my mystery guy’s Adonis belt. I’m interested in Mr. Halifax’s Adonis belt.”

“What’s an Adonis belt?” Axel’s little sister asked as she walked over.

I smiled at Parker. She always had the best questions. “It’s when a man’s abs...”

“Can you please go away?” RJ said. “The adults are talking.”

Parker looked up at him. “Are you just mad because you don’t have one?”

“Of course I have one,” RJ said.

“Well, let’s see it.”

RJ huffed and started lifting his shirt.

“Don’t flash my little sister,” Axel said and grabbed RJ’s wrist.

“I wasn’t whipping it out. I was proving the little menace wrong.”
