“I haven’t gotten any hits. And my thumb is tired from scrolling this much.”
“Scrolling...what?”
She smiled and tucked her legs underneath her. “I’m on a dating app.”
“Excuse me? Scarlett, you’re engaged.”
“I know.” She smiled down at the ring on her finger. “I’m on the dating app for you.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“We all are,” Jacob said as he sat down on the other side of me.
“Not me,” Axel said.
“But we are,” RJ said and slapped Liam on the back. “But Liam and I are taking turns. Because as much as we want to help, this shit is gay as hell.”
“No offense meant,” Liam said.
I opened my mouth and closed it again. “I’m so confused.”
“Jacob caught us up on everything about your mystery man,” Liam said.
“That’s not what I’m confused about.” And how had Jacob caught them up on anything? He wasn’t even there.
Scarlett stopped scrolling on her phone and looked up. “We all signed up for different dating apps to try and find your mystery guy.”
“You did not.”
“We did,” Jacob said. “There’s a lot of weirdos on these things though.”
I laughed. “Why did you assume that my mystery guy is on a dating app?”
“Well, more of hookup apps,” RJ said. “Sounds like he was kind of handsy for a first date. Probably goes all the way on a first date then. Hence hookup apps.”
“It wasn’t a date.”
“Either way.” Liam grabbed RJ’s phone. “This guy has green eyes. Is this him?” He flashed the screen at me.
“I have no idea. I didn’t see him.”
Scarlett leaned forward to see. “No. Not him. Keep looking.” She turned to me. “We need more clues. It seemed like he kept whispering in your ear. Can you tell us anything else about him?”
I shrugged. I was still annoyed with my mystery man. Dancing with him had pretty much backfired. Yes, Mr. Halifax had clearly noticed me. But now he was avoiding me. Or he’s sick... I sighed. “This is pointless. I don’t like the guy.”
“But we all like Mr. Halifax,” Liam said. “We don’t want him to get fired.”
“How many times do I need to tell you that I’m not trying to get him fired? I’m trying to get him to seduce me.”
“Which he’ll be fired for, Soph.” Liam tossed the phone back to RJ.
“Not if no one finds out.”
RJ laughed. “Why do so many of these guys have their shirts off? Thirsty much? We’re looking for green eyes not gross happy trails.”
“Well, you guys can stop looking,” I said. “I don’t need to unmask my mystery man...”
“Unmask!” Scarlett smiled. “See...it is just like my kiss thief. Those are the same words we always used. And yes we do need to unmask him. What if this guy is your person? It feels like everything is leading you toward him. Your happily ever after.”
