I ran my fingers through his hair. “No. But I’ve never met anyone like you.”

He seemed to like that answer. He settled back into the couch cushion, pulling me with him. “So this is your secret lair, huh?” He looked around the room. “Wait. What the hell is that?” He was staring at RJ’s portrait.

I laughed. Adonis must have been very unobservant. “How was that not the first thing you saw when you walked in here?”

“I’m always a little preoccupied staring at you,” he said.

I knew my cheeks were turning red. “Well, Axel painted it,” I said.

“Um...why?” Adonis asked.

“It’s a long story.”

“Well, hit me with it,” he said. “I have all the time in the world. My only plans for the foreseeable future involve you.”

“Is that so?”

He kissed the side of my neck.

“What did the two of you do all afternoon?” Scarlett asked, pulling us out of our little bubble.

“Aphrodite tried to fight my dad and then we spent the rest of the day in bed.”

I mean...it wasn’t an inaccurate description of our day.

Scarlett looked very confused. “Wait. You met Adonis’ father? And then you guys hooked up? With your dad in the other room? And your dad knew you were alone in Adonis’ room together the whole time?”

She acted like it was the most scandalous thing in the world. It wasn’t. But Axel would literally be dead if Uncle James knew what they did right under his nose.

“My dad wasn’t there,” Adonis said. “But he wouldn’t have cared.”

“Wait, you didn’t meet him?” Scarlett asked.

I shook my head. “No, I just heard some stories. And I’ve heard all I need to know. Also, we need to go shopping.”

“For?”

“My house is fine,” Adonis said.

It really wasn’t. But I wasn’t talking about decorations. I’d been thinking about this on the ride over. And I’d already decided. “Adonis needs a pet.”

“Excuse me?” he said.

“Yeah. A dog maybe...”

He shook his head. “I can’t take care of a dog.”

“Then a cat.”

“Absolutely not,” he said. He shuddered. “I don’t like pets.”

“I’ll pick out a good one.”

“Don’t you dare.”

“I don’t like the idea of you being in that house alone all the time.”

“Then come over and keep my bed warm.”
