“We had this whole list of possibilities. You wanted her to score you lottery tickets or fireworks. There was something about working a meat slicer in a deli. She’d be old enough to rent her own place. And get married, obviously. But we didn’t know that was the thing. I personally thought you desperately wanted her to notarize something.”
Axel laughed.
“We also thought you might just be counting down to Valentine’s Day for some reason,” Scarlett said.
He smiled at her. “Really?”
She shrugged. “Oh, and there was also a thing about being old enough for a boob job.”
“Pumpkin,” Adonis said. “Don’t even with me. Your tits are perfect.”
Axel hit him in the back of the head. Like how he did with RJ all the time.
I smiled. Yeah, they were definitely friends now.
Axel walked over and put his hands on either side of Scarlett on the couch. “You are perfect.” He leaned forward and kissed her. “I couldn’t wait for you to be mine.”
I glanced over at Jacob. He was staring at them as he took a sip of his drink.
I’d really hoped he’d bring Girl #5 with him tonight. Wait. I turned to RJ. “Where is Amber? Didn’t you invite her?”
“Ugh.” RJ sat down on the couch. “I’ll give you guys one guess.” He tossed his phone at Scarlett.
She looked down. “Ew, God. RJ! I don’t want to see some random girl topless!”
“What?” He grabbed his phone. “Oh, sorry, I was just trying to show you her last text.”
Liam laughed. “I don’t mind seeing.” He put his hand out.
“Don’t share pictures like that,” Axel said. “It’s very disrespectful.”
Scarlett kissed his cheek.
Jacob laughed. “What did she say, RJ?”
“She cancelled because apparently I have a girlfriend already.” He exhaled like he was exhausted.
“Wait, who else are you dating?” Liam asked. “You didn’t tell me you made it official with someone.”
“I haven’t,” RJ snapped. “It’s his demon sister.” He hit Axel’s arm.
“What?” Axel frowned. “You asked my sister to be your girlfriend? What the F is wrong with you?”
“No!” RJ said. “Of course I didn’t. She’s like five. But she somehow must have gotten Amber’s number and told her I was off-limits. She’s trying to ruin my life.”
Axel shook his head. “That’s all in your head, man. And stop talking to my sister.”
“I’m not!”
Adonis laughed as he pulled me onto his lap. “Your friends are very interesting.”
“Them, huh?” I stared at him.
“What is that supposed to mean?” He smiled at me.
“I just mean that you seem to fit in really well with us. So if we’re strange, so are you.”
He smiled and pulled me even closer. “I didn’t say strange. Do you think I’m strange, Aphrodite?”
