Eek.
“Is Uncle James scolding us now too?” Adonis asked and lifted his head.
“Did you just call my brother Uncle James?” my dad asked.
Adonis quickly turned his head. And he seemed to instantly recognize my father.
I wasn’t sure if it was from his stalking or because my dad looked so much like my uncle.
“Shit,” Adonis said. “I mean...” He cleared his throat.
I’d never seen Adonis flustered before.
“You must be my baby girl’s boyfriend.” My dad put his hand out for him. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Adonis shook it. “Nice to meet you, Mr. H.”
I was honestly a little surprised that he hadn’t just called him Dad.
“Too formal for me,” my dad said. “Just call me Rob. And you’re coming over for dinner tonight.” My dad smiled. One of his smiles that meant he was up to something.
“Where’s Mom?” I asked. My dad wouldn’t pull the prank with my mom in the house. He knew better after last time.
“She’s at Matt’s watching the kids so that he and Brooklyn could go to a movie or something.”
Crap.
“What do you say?” my dad asked Adonis.
Before he could respond, I cut in. “Can’t we go out to eat? To celebrate the win?” I really liked Adonis’ body intact.
My dad raised his eyebrow at me. “Okay. But you can come over for dessert after.” He slapped Adonis on the back. “Maybe hit the showers first though?” He shook off his hand.
Adonis laughed. “Yeah, I’ll be right back.”
“And tell mini me we’re going out to dinner.”
“Mini me?” Adonis asked.
“Little Rob. About this tall.” My dad put his hand to the same height as him. “Looks exactly like me. You can’t miss him.”
Adonis chuckled. “Will do. See you in a few.” He winked at me and ran back down the bleachers.
“Everything isn’t quite set up yet,” my dad said. “But it’s still a go.”
“I’m calling it off.”
“What? Why?”
“Because I like him now.”
My dad laughed. “Even better. He won’t expect it.”
“Dad.”
“What?”
“Call it off.”
