“Seriously? You want to block Axel’s little sister from your phone?”
“Yes!”
I laughed. “Okay.” I hit a few buttons. “She’s been blocked.” Like how Mr. Halifax blocked me. And just like that I wanted to cry again.
“So...you and Adonis,” RJ started.
That was the perfect distraction. “There is no me and Adonis.”
“If you say so.”
“I do.”
RJ smiled. Like he knew something I didn’t. I really hated when he did that. Had Adonis said something to him? Or was he smiling about something else? It looked like he was mid-prank. And I really didn’t understand this one. I just hoped I wasn’t about to get a face full of pudding.
Huh. But maybe Adonis should get a face full of pudding. Pulling a prank might be just the thing to cheer me up.
Chapter 28 – I’m Just Like My Dad
Friday
I grabbed some plates even though my dad had just picked up a slice right from the box. My mom was having a girls’ night with all my aunts. I was pretty sure my dad was supposed to be hanging out with his friends, but he’d ditched them for me.
“Dad?”
“Mhm?” he said through a mouthful of pizza.
“I need your help pulling a prank.”
He tossed his half-eaten slice of pizza back in the box. “Now we’re talking.” He hoisted himself up on the kitchen island to get comfortable. “My brother won’t see it coming. And I already have the frogs.”
What? No. “The prank isn’t for Uncle James.”
“Who is it for?”
“Some guy at school.”
My dad frowned. “What guy? Are we talking about the guy? Because I have a special prank planned for that asshole.”
I bet he did. And it was the first time my dad actually acknowledged the fact that he knew what had happened. But he must have only known the redacted version. Or else he would have known the guy that had broken my heart wasn’t still at my school.
I cleared my throat. “No. Just some guy.”
“Is he giving you trouble? Because I’ll kick his ass.”
I laughed. “No.”
“Then why do you want to play a prank on him?”
“Because he’s annoying.”
“I mean, is there like something wrong with the kid? Because if there’s something wrong with him, it’s kind of frowned upon to prank him.”
“There’s nothing wrong with him. He’s this new kid and...”
“Eh. Soph, you really shouldn’t pick on the new kid at school.”
“I’m not!”
