“Let’s just make some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As long as you have the un-chunky peanut butter. You know I can’t stand a soft sandwich being crunchy. That makes zero sense.”

“Are you sure that’s what you want to make?”

“Yes. As long as you have smooth peanut butter.”

She smiled. “Yeah, jelly is in the fridge. I’ll grab the peanut butter.”

I hurried to make the sandwiches in record time.

For some reason Scarlett kept smiling.

“I don’t like him,” I said.

“I didn’t say you did.”

Then why did she keep smiling like that? I grabbed the tray of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and walked into the living room.

The guys stopped talking. Like they had indeed been talking about us. Traitors!

“Here we go,” I said. I dropped the tray unceremoniously on the table. And then I lifted one of the plates and handed it to Jacob.

“What is this?” Jacob asked.

“Your favorite.”

“Oh. Right. That.” He nodded and pulled back the top piece of bread to see what I’d made. He let it flop back into place, but didn’t take a bite.

“So what do we have here?” Adonis asked. He grabbed one of the plates. “What is Jacob’s favorite?”

“Peanut butter and jelly,” I said.

“Sounds good to me.” He took a bite. “I love that you didn’t use that chunky junk. This is great.”

I smiled. “Thank you. I hate chunky peanut butter. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches shouldn’t be crunchy.”

“I know,” Adonis said. “See...we have so much in common.”

What? No! I turned to Jacob. “Eat your sandwich.” I hit his chest with the back of my hand.

Jacob dropped his lips to my ear. “Please don’t make me eat this,” he whispered.

I looked up at him. “Why?”

“I hate jelly,” he said. “It’s so sticky.”

“You literally lick icing off your fingers. You don’t mind sticky.”

“This is stickier than that. And...jellier.”

“That’s not a word.”

“I really don’t like the consistency.”

“Eat it,” I hissed.

“It’s so gross though.”

“Everything alright over there?” Adonis asked.
