Daisy grinned as she saw Sloane in Dallin’s arms and gave them a thumbs-up. “It looks like this antidote has had some amazing side effects on you.”

Dallin couldn’t help but smile at that comment. “You’ll hear no complaints from me about my current situation.”

Angel pulled out a handheld scanner from her lab coat pocket. “I need to run a check-up on both of you.”

“Doesn’t Cleo want us in the briefing room in five minutes?” Sloane asked.

“She does. But this won’t take long. Everyone has to have the follow-up checks. It’s just routine, and I figured I’d find you both in here.”

“That’s Dallin’s fault,” Sloane said. “He crept out of his room, and I knew exactly where he was going.”

“It was only a short stop off,” he said.

“You were gone for an hour.”

“Was I?”

Sloane smacked a kiss on his cheek. “Yes!”

“We were on our way to the briefing.” Daisy entwined her fingers with Rexx’s hand. “We thought we’d drop by and make sure you two didn’t get too distracted with all your new experiments.”

Dallin grumbled under his breath, but another grin crossed his face.

Sloane laughed. “Our experiments are coming along just fine. And we plan to continue our work together for the rest of our lives.”

“That’s so cute,” Daisy said.

Rexx wrapped an arm around her waist. “I can be cute.”

“Of course! You can also be growly and grumpy, which I also love.”

“Let me take some blood samples to run through the analyzer,” Angel said. “How’s the leg doing, Dallin?”

“I can barely feel it. The break has healed.”

“It’s almost healed. You were limping last night.” Sloane offered her arm for a blood sample, and then Dallin did the same.

Once she’d taken their blood, Angel stored away the samples. “Perfect. I’ll take a look at these after the briefing.”

“Let’s move,” Rexx said.

The group left the lab and headed to the briefing room, leaving Brutus in his large play crate, so he wouldn’t tear the place apart.

Everyone else was already in the room when they arrived, and they quickly took their seats.

Cleo stood at the front of the table, looking tired but happy as she studied the crew. “Everyone quiet down. I won’t keep you long. There’s been plenty of information to sift through after our clash with the Siblet. The headline news is that they’re on the run, and everyone is angry at what they attempted to do.”

“And the antidote?” Striker leaned forward. “No weird side effects we need to watch out for?”

Cleo gestured to Angel. “Not that I’m aware of. Angel, care to stop Striker worrying that he might grow a second head?”

Angel grinned. “The poison antidote is effective on everyone. I’m still doing regular check-ups on the crew to be sure everyone is fighting fit, but no one has suffered any long-term effects.”

“And what about other aliens who came into contact with the poison?” Wren said.

“We’ve sent out all the antidote we have, and details of how to manufacture it are being broadcast across all channels, so it can be distributed to anyone who needs it,” Cleo said.

“Which means we can get back to our exciting life inside the lab.” Sloane stuck out her bottom lip.
