Chapter 18
“I knew I’d find youin here.”
Dallin turned at the sweet sound of Sloane’s voice behind him and grinned. Standing beside her was Brutus, who was looking around the lab with interest. “I’m just checking a few tests. And I needed to feed the octo-squibs. I’ll be five minutes.”
“That’s five minutes too long. I haven’t forgotten that less than four days ago, you were dead.” Sloane walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist.
He tensed, but only for a second, before returning her tight embrace. Everything felt back to normal. Well, not quite normal. He had this wonderful human by his side. Dallin was so glad he’d lost this fight and admitted Sloane didn’t need to stay away from him.
This whole time, he’d been the one in danger, and she’d stood up for him when he needed protecting. It felt wonderful to be with her again, and to be back on the Apocalypse with all the crew.
Sloane ran a finger between his eyebrows. “What’s going on in that clever mind of yours?”
“I’m thinking about you. Always you.”
She snorted a laugh. “Doubtful. I’m right under your experiments and the octo-squibs.”
“Not anymore. You’re top of my list, where you should have been all along.”
Her arms tightened around him. “Ain’t that the truth.”
Since their return to the Apocalypse, everyone had slowly recovered from the effects of the Siblet poison. The humans healed faster than the Apexians, but everyone was getting back to full strength.
“What do we do now?” Dallin still had to pinch himself every time he remembered he was with Sloane. “I’ve never really done this before.”
“Done what? Tried to lead a normal life outside a lab?”
He gave her a playful tap on the butt. “Had a relationship. I’m out of practise.”
“You’re telling me I’m your first?” Sloane grinned at him wickedly.
“You’re my first of many. My first love, my first real partner, and the only female I ever want to be my mate. You’re the only woman who’s ever made me truly happy.”
She blinked rapidly. “And I expect I’m the only woman who’s never given up on you, you stubborn, gorgeous alien geek.”
He chuckled. “That might also be true, but I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I needed the right woman by my side to make everything work. You always make the pieces of any puzzle fit together. You’re my smart, beautiful female.”
“And you’re my gorgeous, sexy, brainy alien.” She pressed her lips against his.
Dallin was happy to lose himself in the soft kiss that quickly turned hot as her tongue found his.
The door to the lab opened, and Angel strode in. She grinned when she saw them together. “I’m thrilled to see you two have figured things out.”
Dallin tried to pull away, but Sloane kept her arm wrapped tightly around his waist. “We’re getting there. I still need to teach Dallin how awesome public displays of affection are.”
Brutus lumbered over and accepted a pet from Angel.
“Is there something you need?” Dallin’s tone was gruffer than he’d intended, but he’d been having fun with Sloane, and didn’t appreciate being disturbed.
Angel laughed, not seeming to mind his bluntness. “Yes, there is.”
Daisy and Rexx strolled through the door before she said more, Rexx’s arm slung around Daisy’s shoulders.
Brutus growled at Rexx. He growled right back.
Dallin groaned. “This area is out of bounds unless you’re here to get test results. I don’t need lots of aliens stamping around in here and messing things up.”
Sloane pinched his butt. “Hey! Be nice to our friends.”
