Chapter 16

Holy fricking stars! Eden held out her hands, her fingertips tingling as Blaze’s energy continued to course through her in a delicious, warm explosion of power.

Her vision was crisp, her hearing heightened, and her sense of smell so strong she was practically gagging on the stench in the cargo hold from the sweat and blood left over from the Pecket fight.

Two Pecket guarded her cage, their backs to her and their weapons loose at their sides. They looked like slow, clumsy idiots. They’d be no problem to get around.

Eden rolled her injured shoulder, and the wound from the gunshot barely twinged. This Apexian energy was magic.

If she’d known it would feel this amazing, she’d have been asking for Blaze’s energy every day. And a lot more. She wanted to feel his mouth on hers again, his hands stroking over her body, and his weight on top of her. Stars! She needed him more than air.

Her insides heated, and warmth coiled around her. She felt connected to Blaze in a way she’d never been before. She could sense him in the ship. It was a faint hum that called her to join him.

Her gut clenched. Every minute she spent in this cage, the connection she was feeling faded. And that meant one terrifying thing. Blaze was dying. She was losing him.

He’d given her so much of his energy that there was no way he’d recover from his injuries. And the Pecket wouldn’t take care of him. They’d use him and then discard him.

She had to get to Blaze. She needed to fix this. There was no way she was losing him. He’d risked his life for her, and she’d never forget that. His actions time and time again had shown her he wasn’t the kind of guy to bail.

Most of the losers she’d wasted time on had jumped ship if she so much as asked them to pay for dinner. Blaze was different. She’d always known that. She’d just been too scared and proud to admit it.

He was her partner. He’d always been there for her. And all the time, she’d been fighting her own battle, keeping him away, believing she wasn’t enough for him. Believing he couldn’t be such an amazing guy.

It was time to show how much she appreciated that and how much she needed him in her life for good.

She tapped on the cage bars with a knuckle. “Hey, I’m bored.”

Neither of the guards moved.

“Maybe one of you gorgeous guys can come in here and entertain me.” A shudder of revulsion ran through Eden, but she forced a seductive smile on her face. Most guys had a weakness, and it involved what hung between their legs.

The guard on the right glanced over his shoulder at her. “Keep quiet.”

“You don’t want to play? You must be bored, too. You’ve got nothing to do except stare at those walls.”

He glanced at his colleague before turning to face the cage. His gaze ran over her. “What are you suggesting?”

“We pass the time by having fun together. You can both join in if you like. I’m up for anything.” Eden licked her lips and lowered her gaze. She may be bruised and bloody, but she still had her curves on display in her sleep shorts and tank top. It was time to use them to her advantage.

“You didn’t seem up for it earlier.”

“There were too many of you all wanting a piece of me. But I like the look of you. What’s your name?”

“Dazet.” He walked closer to the cage, his weapon still out, but it was lowered. Idiot. When will these aliens learn never to underestimate a Human?

“What are you doing?” the other guard said.

“She’s right. It’s boring as hell on watch duty.”

The other guard grunted. “It’ll be your balls on the block if you get caught screwing her.”

“Then I won’t get caught. Keep an eye on the door. Let me know if anyone’s coming.” Dazet’s hand went to the lock, and he paused, his eyes narrowing. “Try anything, and you’re dead.”

Eden pouted and shuffled back a couple of inches. “I’m a weak, injured Human. I don’t have the ability to try anything. But a girl has to get her kicks where she can. Why don’t you show me what you’re made of?”

Dazet unlocked the door and eased it open. He remained outside the cage.

“Are you coming in, or are you just going to stare at me?”
