“Unless his majesty has a better option?”

“No better option. Let’s get this over with and head back to the Apocalypse. Unless you’re planning to spend time with Ranger.”

“Maybe I will.”

“You do that.” Blaze scowled and glanced at his discarded tablet containing the files of the prospects for his impending match. He preferred it when Eden was sharp with him. Then, he could pretend he didn’t like her and didn’t want to get her naked, touch every inch of her body, and make her scream his name.

He jabbed his finger on the tablet. He needed to accept the responsibility he had to his family. Once this mission was over, he’d put in his notice to leave.

Blaze had another six months before he had to find a suitable match, but why put off the inevitable? He’d join with whoever his parents wanted him to.

He didn’t care. If he couldn’t have love, he’d settle for duty.

A hollow ache throbbed deep inside him. This would make things right. He’d make his family happy, get away from Eden, and finally get her out of his head. They could both move on without each other.

“Blaze, Eden. You need to strap in and get the hell out of there.” Ranger came over the comm link.

Blaze straightened in his seat, detecting the tension in Ranger’s voice. “What’s the problem?”

“We’re under attack.”
