The flash of hurt in Rexx’s eyes gave her a sense of triumph. He deserved to feel pain. He was a jerk. No better than Johnny.

“You don’t hate me,” he said.

Unexpected fury poured through Daisy. It was so fierce she shook. Her hand went to her gun. She’d show this overbearing alien who was in charge.

“I don’t want to do this, but you leave me with no choice.” Rexx launched himself at her. He pinned her against a tree, removed her weapons, and activated his comm link again.

Daisy shrieked and kicked out. “Get away from me. Give me my damn gun.”

“Cleo, how far out are you?” Rexx ignored her protests and pinned her hands above her head.

“Five minutes. What’s wrong?”

“Get here as quickly as you can. Daisy is sick. She’s not in control.”

“Screw you. I know exactly what I want.” Her gaze flicked to the gun he’d tossed to one side.

“I’ll have Angel on standby when we land,” Cleo said. “Can you hold out? Has she been bitten by something?”

“No, it’s not an animal attack. It’s a... fuck, I don’t know what it is. Just get here.”

“I’ll never work with you again after this,” Daisy snarled. “You’re an embarrassment. No wonder you got kicked off the Apexian alpha team. Why would they want a messed up, failed warrior like you?”
