She didn’t slow as she shot him the finger over her shoulder.

Hell, no, this wasn’t happening. For whatever reason she was behaving like this, he’d deal with it. And he’d make sure she was protected, even though she was being so reckless.

Chapter 5

Fire burned through Daisy’s veins, and a twitchy energy coursed through her, exploding like itchy hives across her skin.

She couldn’t focus. Her vision was blurry, her stomach churned, and her head pounded. She needed to get away. She had to break free from Rexx and his stifling confinement. He was the reason she felt so bad. It had to be that.

She ignored his calls to come back. She felt strong. She’d never had this much energy before. The heat inside her flooded through her muscles and made her go faster.

She didn’t need Rexx. She worked better alone. In fact, she didn’t need any of the crew. What was she doing, wasting her time with that bunch of losers?

There had to be more than this. And as for catching this dumb creature, what was the point?

She was free.

A hot, hard body crashed into her from behind.

“What the fuck?” Daisy tasted dirt as she hit the ground and was swamped by Rexx’s solid muscles.

“Apocalypse, this is Rexx. I’m issuing an immediate mission abort,” he said.

“Get off me, you moron.” Daisy squirmed beneath him, but she was going nowhere. He had her pinned.

The response from the Apocalypse was immediate. “Is there a problem?” It was Cleo.

“Yes. We need an immediate evac,” Rexx said.

Daisy squirmed her hand up to her ear and activated her own link. “Ignore that order, Cleo. Rexx is being a dick.”

Rexx hissed in her ear. “Daisy’s been compromised.”

There was silence over the comm link for a few seconds. “Understood. We’re fifteen minutes out. We’ll meet you at the collection point.” The worry was clear in Cleo’s voice.

“I’ll contain things until then,” Rexx said.

“Contain things? You’re insane. What are you doing? Why did you knock me off my feet? I was chasing the emet.” She tried to buck her hips, shove Rexx off her, but it was like trying to move a huge boulder uphill with a toothpick.

The pressure on her eased a fraction. “You were out of control. You abandoned your kit, and you were running off. You weren’t checking the scanner to see where the creature was going. What’s happening with you?”

“Nothing! The only problem I have is an overbearing partner who won’t back off. Like now. Get your damn hands off me.”

Rexx breathed heavily. He shifted position, giving her a chance to move.

Daisy took full advantage. She rolled onto her back, only to find Rexx’s face inches from hers. He was so sexy up close. Every muscle was tense, and those penetrating purple eyes were fixed on her. Something hard pressed against her thigh.

She shot him her sexiest smile. There was one sure fire way to shatter this giant alien. “You wanna play?”

Confusion filled his gaze as he looked down at her. “I don’t understand. Why did you do that?”

There was no time for subtlety. The heat inside Daisy fired up her passions. She clamped her hands on either side of his head and pulled him down on top of her.

Rexx hesitated for a second, but when her tongue demanded access to his mouth, he groaned and let her in.

She devoured him, curling her arms around his neck and feasting on his mouth. He kissed just like he fought, hard, rough, and breathtakingly strong.

Daisy molded herself to his body, a new kind of heat filling her with an overwhelming desire to get naked and sweaty with Rexx.
