Talyn

That had been three weeks ago, and since then, she’d kept a low profile as she planned her future with Talyn.

She hugged all the girls and settled at the desk, her old desk, as Nell made coffee and they all sat together.

“You must be excited about your plans,” Kendra said.

“Excited and terrified. There’s so much to think about.”

“I can’t believe you’re going traveling for two whole years,” Vegas said. “You’ll see things that will blow your mind.”

“I know. I can’t wait,” Sinead said. She’d told Vegas and the others everything that had happened with Talyn, coming clean about the mix-up over the contracts, his near miss with being expunged, and the problems he had with his mom.

Vegas had tried to get Sinead her job back when she’d learned what had happened, but Diadora held firm. Sinead was officially unemployed. She deserved it. She’d seriously screwed-up.

But she had a new future with Talyn by her side, a different one, and she was thrilled about it. Unemployed but thrilled.

“I’ve been thinking about your place here,” Vegas said as she cast a knowing look around the group.

Sinead shrugged, a sliver of sadness sliding through her. “I don’t have a place here. I don’t deserve to have a place here.”

“I think you do. Diadora had to stick to her rules, but that doesn’t mean I can’t bend mine.”

Sinead raised her eyebrows. “What have you got in mind?”

“You’re amazing with people. You’ve got a way about you that makes them open up.” Vegas’ eyes sparkled. “I’ve been thinking about expanding our base of freelance contractors.”

Sinead’s heart raced. “You want me to freelance for My Single Alien?”

“I do. It’s a role perfectly suited to your skills. You’d promote My Single Alien to far corners of the different galaxies you travel through, so it will fit with your plans. You’ll have a temporary base wherever you go to run the promotions. It’s only part-time, so it won’t take you away from your new family.”

Sinead didn’t know what to say as she blinked tears out of her eyes. This was more than she deserved.

“You’ll get a healthy commission for new sign-ups. And I’ll pay you for new leads you send us. What do you think?” Vegas asked. “Are you interested in taking My Single Alien into new territories?”

Sinead’s eyes gleamed with pleasure. “Where do I sign up?”

Vegas laughed. “Don’t be so quick. Remember how much trouble you got into the last time you didn’t check the small print before signing something.”

They all laughed and smiled at Sinead as she had the decency to blush. She would miss her friends at My Single Alien when she left Prodigy. But this way, she could stay in touch and keep up to date with all their news.

“I’ll give it serious consideration and promise to read all the paperwork. But I’m one hundred percent certain that I’ll be signing up. You’re sure Diadora won’t mind?”

“She’ll be livid if she finds out.” Vegas shrugged. “Let’s give it a test run for six months. I’ve no doubt you’ll be incredible at this job. When you’ve shown how awesome you are, I can let Diadora know about all the great new clients we’re getting, thanks to you. She’s always won over by the bottom line. She’ll see fit to forgive you if you make her a heap of money.”

“Thanks, Vegas,” Sinead said. “This is so good of you.”

“I’m doing it for selfish reasons. You’re a great team member, and I don’t want to lose you. This way, you get to keep working and have the fun you’ve planned with Talyn and his family.”

Sinead nodded. She had a new family. She had Talyn, and he made every day amazing. She’d also met Laya three times. She was so sweet-natured and kind, and her daughter was the cutest baby she’d ever met. Vegas was right. The future would be full of fun.

The door to the office slid open. Holly Lipinski stood outside, looking nervous.

Sinead jumped up and beckoned her in. “Holly, come in.”

Holly glanced over Sinead’s shoulder at everyone else. “Can we talk outside?”

“Of course.” Sinead walked into the corridor with Holly. “Is everything okay?”

“I’ve been thinking about what you said about trying the services of My Single Alien.”
