Talyn pulled back, worry in his eyes. “She’s worse than I am.”

“Than you were. With me, you’re better. I want to see if I have the same effect on your mom as I do you.”

“Your influence is unique to me. You’re my Blocker.”

“I know what I’m doing. Booby helped me figure this out while you were recovering.”

“Booby needs to be disassembled,” Talyn growled.

“Wait! Hear me out. I know all about Blockers, thanks to Booby. She showed me some new research. If I block you, I should have an impact on other family members. Even if it’s not as strong, it will help your mom.”

Talyn pinched the bridge of his nose. “She could hurt you. She might consider you a threat. Your emotions are powerful.”

“I know. You thought I was annoying the first time we met because I came on so strong, emotionally speaking.” She waved a hand in the air.

Talyn gave a small shrug. “Not so much annoying, you were just loud in my head. I didn’t realize that your loudness blocked out everybody else. I’ve grown to love that loudness.”

Sinead pursed her lips. “Funny guy. I’m sure I can use some of my loudness to help your mom. I don’t expect you to see her. I don’t want you suffering until she’s safe to be around.”

“There’s no way you’re going to see her on your own.”

“Correct, and I didn’t say I’d see her on my own.” Sinead smiled slyly. “I contacted your sister, and we had a long chat.”

Talyn’s eyebrows shot up. “You’ve spoken to Laya?”

“Booby put us in touch. Laya’s lovely. And you’ll be happy to know your niece is doing well. She’s back home.”

“That’s great news.” His eyes narrowed. “What else did you chat about?”

“I’ve agreed to meet Laya at the hospital. We’ll see your mom together.”

“Don’t do this because you feel obligated to. I—”

“I don’t feel obligated. I want to help my mother-in-law.”

Talyn ducked his head. “I should have told you how bad she was before we joined.”

“It wouldn’t have mattered. She’s your mom, and we’re a part of the same family now. I hate to think of her suffering and confused. If me being around your mom helps calm her mind, then we have to do this.”

He stroked a hand down her cheek. “You can’t spend the rest of your life holding my mom’s hand to keep her calm. It’s not fair on you.”

“Let me decide what’s fair. From what I know of your mom, she sounds amazing.”

Talyn pressed a soft kiss against her lips. “Have I told you how incredible you are? You could have walked away from this.”

“Not a chance. There’s no way I’m missing out on our adventures. I’m in this with you and your family forever. Who just happens to be my family now we’re joined.”

He kissed her until she was laughing and dizzy. “Forever. I’ll hold you to that.”

Sinead wrapped her arms around Talyn as they sank into each other again. She no longer felt fear or afraid to love and be loved. The only thoughts in her head were good ones. She could finally love freely and planned to embrace every single exciting second.

“IS THE COAST CLEAR?” Sinead peered into the My Single Alien office, hoping not to bump into Diadora.

Vegas hurried over and gestured her in. “Diadora’s at a meeting off station. She won’t be back for hours.”

Sinead let out a sigh of relief as she walked into the office, smiling when she saw Kendra, Nell, and Avril. As she’d feared, when she’d returned to Prodigy after saving Talyn, she’d been summoned to Diadora’s office and fired.
