I hated how often I had said those words since arriving in town.
Mace appeared behind Trigger.
He didn’t enter the room.
His gaze moved over Rylie, the sheriff, and then me.
“What do you need?” he asked.
The question wasn’t directed at me alone.
It was directed at everyone.
“I need the original report on Emily Ross,” I said.
Sheriff Tate stood.
“I’ll find it.”
“I need the name of every person working at the camp that summer.”
“That may take time.”
“We have the staff records,” Will said.
He lifted a folder from the first box.
Rylie looked at it.
“That’s the camp photograph.”
“What photograph?” I asked.
“The staff took one every summer beneath the welcome sign.”
Will opened the folder.
A photograph had been tucked behind the employee roster.
Nine young women stood beneath the tree-and-river emblem.
The image had faded, but I recognized Rylie immediately.
She stood near the center with one arm around a blond woman.
“Is that Emily?” I asked.
“Yes.”
I placed the photograph on the table.
Nine women.
The camp symbol had nine flames.
Coincidence.
Maybe.
