Rylie didn’t react.

She already knew what the danger was. Saying it aloud didn’t make her weaker. It made the rest of us understand what we were fighting.

Evan stared at the picture. “Who else knows about this?”

“Why?” Judy asked.

“Because if the killer is connected to that camp, someone needs to warn the people who worked there.”

“We’re doing that.”

“Have you talked to my father?”

The question came too quickly.

Judy’s eyes narrowed. “Should we?”

Evan looked away. “He was sheriff at the time.”

“Yes, he was.”

“He might remember something.”

“You just spent ten minutes telling us no one considered Emily’s death suspicious.”

“They didn’t.”

“But now you think your father might remember something useful?”

“I’m trying to help.”

“No,” Judy said. “You’re trying to learn how much we know.”

“That isn’t true.”

“Then tell me why your first thought was to warn your father.”

Evan’s head snapped toward her. “I didn’t say warn him.”

“You asked who else knew. Then you asked if we’d spoken to him.”

“He’s in his eighties. I don’t want people showing up and upsetting him.”

“Where is he?”

“At the cabin.”

The room went silent again.

Judy glanced at Evan’s phone.

“Your father is at the cabin outside Dallas?”

“Yes.”

“With Robert?”

“No. Robert lives in Dallas.”
