He didn’t attack, but he didn’t stop coming either. He was breathing hard, almost panting, and still snarling.
And he still had a huge erection.
He walked right up to her, inches away, until she was surrounded by the scent of him. He smelled delicious. Wild and ferocious, and despite her fear—or maybe because of it—she felt heat pooling in her belly.
She put her hands on his chest—his tattooed, human chest. His muscles were rock-hard, his skin velvety under her palms.
He leaned in, tilting his head, that half-human muzzle almost touching her skin. He breathed in, scenting her, and then she felt his teeth graze the side of her neck, ever so softly.
Her pulse pounded, right in that very spot, and he ran his tongue up the side of her neck.
Madison’s knees went weak.
He pulled back, his gold eyes meeting hers. He made another sound—a questioning whine.
He was still Sanchez—she could see him there—but also his wolf.
This was the person who’d saved her tonight; this was the wolf she’d talked to in the forest. Man and wolf together. In that moment, she knew for sure he would never hurt her.
As if he could hear her thoughts, he said in a rough, growling voice, “Not… hurt?”
“No, I’m not hurt. I’m okay. You saved me.”
There was another growl, and then he forced out another word. “Protect.”
“Yes. You protected me. Thank you.”
She put her hands on his cheeks, on either side of his man-beast face. “Come back now.”
And she kissed him.
For a moment his mouth felt odd under hers. Misshapen. And then it softened… melted… and she felt human lips under hers.
He was still growling, though, and she could still feel the beginnings of downy fur on his face.
He pulled back with a little jerk, his hands closing over her wrists.
“Don’t,” he said. “I’m a monster. A hunter.”
She shook her head. “You save people. You’re a protector. You protected me.”
He gave a little growly snort. “Soft things get eaten.”
He was so close, and he smelled so good. Every cell in her body was humming. “I’ve heard nothing’s better than being eaten by a wolf.”
He shook his head. “I’m dangerous.” But he kissed her anyway, his lips lingering on hers. “Dominant.” Kiss. “Possessive.” Kiss. “Worse than all your fucking foxes.”
“No. You’re not like them. You would never hurt me.”
He pulled back then, his wolfy eyes boring into hers. “You don’t want me. Not like this.”
She whispered, “What if I do?”
His eyes flashed gold. He leaned in and murmured in her ear, “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Chapter 22
One quick motion, and he had both of her forearms pinned against the wall next to her head, his big hands hard and yet somehow gentle.
