Switch didn’t know who he wanted to kill more: Moreno for even talking to Bree, or Breanna, for fucking being in touch with him all this time. How long had she been talking to him? Since she got here?

Moreno answered that question. “I’ve been looking for you for quite some time, Breanna. Ever since we missed you in Pennsylvania. Where are you?”

“Somewhere you’ll never find me.”

Not any more. He was probably tracking her right now.

Switch growled, “Get to the point, Moreno.” So they could shut this damn phone down.

There was a silence, as Moreno digested the fact that Breanna was with someone who knew who he was.

Then he said, “Very well. Breanna has something that belongs to me. Something very valuable. And if she doesn’t bring it to me immediately, her friend Kimberly will die a slow, painful death. Just like Adrienne.”

Bree went even paler, but she said immediately, “Where should I bring it?”

No hesitation, no bargaining. For her, this was all about her friend, he realized. Not whatever she’d stolen.

Moreno said, “There’s a private airstrip in western Connecticut. I’m assuming you can get your pilot friend to fly you in. Tell him to leave his grenades at home.”

Bree looked at Switch. Mind racing, he shook his head and mouthed the words, Stall him. We need time.

She hesitated, then said, “I need time. I’m not in the New York City area anymore, and it’s not like I can just pull a pilot out of my pocket.”

Moreno said, “Then who was that guy I just talked to?”

“It was my boyfriend. He’s a plumber, not a pilot. He’s just looking out for me.”

“That didn’t take long, did it? You party girls. Always so willing to use your bodies to get whatever you need.”

Switch started growling. He couldn’t help himself.

Breanna had gone from pale to flushed, but she said, “Where’s this airfield?”

“I’ll tell you when you confirm the pilot’s participation.”

Switch held up two fingers, mouthing at her, Two days. They needed time to set up a strike team, and Moreno would cut the time down anyway, just for a power play. She widened her eyes, and shook her head.

He mouthed, Trust me.

She took a deep breath. “I need forty-eight hours. I don’t know if I can reach him right away. He might be out on a job.”

Moreno said, “You have until tomorrow at noon. I’ll call you on this number. If you can’t get hold of that pilot, better find another one to fuck, to speed things along. And don’t forget, Kimberly’s life is in your hands.”

She said, “If you hurt her, you get nothing. Next time I call, I want to talk to her. Live.”

Switch turned off the phone and just managed to stop himself from flinging it off the cliff. He was so furious he could barely speak.

“You had this phone with you the whole time? Do you know how dangerous that was? Someone could have tracked you. They probably did, while we were talking. You could put everyone on this base at risk.”

She took the phone back, turned it off and put it in its case. “This is a special case. It blocks electronic signals. It keeps people from tracking the phone or activating it remotely.”

“Until you fucking take it out and use it!”

He was pacing back and forth. This was a cluster fuck, and they had less than twenty-four hours to solve it.

“So, what is it exactly that Moreno wants from you?” He stopped pacing as a thought struck him. She’d had nothing when she left—not even any decent clothes. “Hell. Do you even have whatever it is?”

But the look on her face gave him his answer. She did. “Fuck. Where is it?”
