They had to drive ten miles to a real supermarket for the food, because the grocery store in Rockhaven wasn’t open this early.

The supermarket also had the advantage of a Starbucks built in, so he could get them coffee and breakfast sandwiches, and then sit at a corner table in the eating area while she ran around the store with a cart like she was on one of those supermarket game shows.

Except her prize was that he was the one who was going to whip out his wallet and pay for whatever she wanted. Sheesh. It was like being mated.

She ended up buying a truly terrifying amount of groceries—and not just cookie ingredients. He didn’t even look—he just handed over his card when it was all bagged up.

He even pushed the cart out to the parking lot and unloaded everything into Boomer’s truck. While she took his wallet and went into the liquor store, coming out with more shit that he’d paid for.

He didn’t even complain. It was those damn doe eyes. They really were unstoppable.

Back at the cabin, Switch found Boomer had left a stink bomb booby trap and a ‘fuck you’ note on his door.

“I guess he did want his truck,” Bree murmured as Switch disarmed the trap.

Once inside, she became a whirlwind of flour and sugar and chocolate chips. Switch had to use one of the extra sheets Michelangela had given them to cover his drone project.

“I need a fucking clean room,” he muttered.

“What’s that?” Breanna asked. She had a smudge of flour on her nose and she looked good enough to eat.

“A special room where you build electronics that doesn’t have flour dust all over it, to muck up all the components.”

She just grinned impishly at him. “Sorry. Eat some cookie dough—it will make you feel better.”

She’d just eaten a fingerful of it herself. She dipped out another glob, and he grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand over to his mouth.

He licked the dough slowly off her finger. Bree closed her eyes and bit her lip. Man, he loved when she did that.

She swallowed hard, and then said, “If you keep doing stuff like that, I’m going to start to think you like me.”

“I do like you.” He dropped her wrist and turned away. “It’s just better if you don’t like me. I’m trouble.”

She said, “But I do like you. So what are we going to do about that?”

He gave her a rueful smile. “Decide tomorrow, I guess.”

Chapter 19

By mid-afternoon, Breanna had baked as many cookies as she could stand, and had them all packed in the gift boxes she’d also bought at the store.

Switch looked at the pile. “Are you planning on giving cookies to every wolf in the pack?”

“Only the ones that scare me.”

This had seemed like such a good idea when she woke up this morning. Something to make her feel normal. Something to fill up her day. And something to maybe show the scary wolves that people didn’t hate them?

Or maybe just a bribe to make them not pretend to attack her anymore. Because she didn’t think Switch ripping their throats out was a viable long-term solution. If he actually meant that—which he’d sounded like he did.

It was both scary and hot, at the same time.

And making cookies kept her from having to figure out what to do about her and Switch. Last night had been beyond amazing, but obviously neither of them knew what to do with that.

And they both sucked at talking about it, apparently.

When the cookies were all packed up, they hiked up the mountain to where the Sanchez cousins lived. They shared a tumbledown cabin in a little clearing that held a few other cabins, where some of the other long-time soldiers lived.

They all watched her and Switch as they approached the Sanchez cabin. Nobody spoke. A few of them growled. They all had crazy eyes.
